Impressed, thrilled, and convinced are many of the descriptions I can give you about my experiences with amazon.com. As one of the leading (and most widely recognized) book and music web-distributors, they have set a wonderful precedent for other e-businesses to follow. By adding toys, electronics, etc. they are only making that enticement even better.
My very first transaction with Amazon was long ago, and just a pile of books. With reasonable shipping costs, and low book prices, I always come out ahead (even more so if you factor in convenience). Also, for people who don't live in larger cities, they have a selection you can't find anywhere else.
I have had one odd encounter with them and they were extremely helpful and understanding. You see, I got the wrong book. It had been a special order (a geneology book). I did get a book from the right collection, it was just the wrong volume. The invoice stated the correct book, so it may have been a problem on the end of their special order company... who knows. As soon as I realized the mistake, I called them and explained the situation. The customer service rep immediately set up a reorder of the accurate book, and since it was a special order (I had already waited over two weeks) she added free overnight shipping for as soon as they received the order. Plus she sent out a return postage sticker so I didn't have to pay a cent. My book arrived in a very timely manner, quicker than I had expected.
Recently they have added such great features as the wish list. This in particular came in real handy for me this year for Christmas. My family doesn't usually know what to get me, so I set up an extensive list with a wide range of possibilities (not just books) so that there would still be an element of surprise. Also, if you are involved in an internet community, someone (with just your e-mail address) can find your list, buy you something, and Amazon will send it to them without revealing to you the address. A safe way to bless those out there that you've grown virtually close to!
All in all I enjoy Amazon, and it's many flavors or commerce. I've yet to have a bad experience. In fact, every time I order from them I'm astonished at how quickly I receive my order.
