Pros: Excellent speaker for the money, extremely good looks, not noticeable with the grill on Cons: none
These speakers are spectacular excellent imaging there are no "spots" where the cabinet vibrates and makes unwanted noise. Parts of music that you don't normally hear without headphones come alive to almost surprise you. The amount of bass coming out of ...

Fantastic Speakers!
by lechler ,Jan 03 '05
Pros: Excellent sound when bi-wiring is used. Cons: Too elegant for its price.
Before, I'm looking for the appropriate left & right speakers and subwoofer but upon hearing the woofing base of NS-555, no need for me to get a sub.

Great Sound
by quirozson ,Mar 06 '08
Pros: Sound Sound Sound Cons: Bass is not full and rich when listening to music. Needs a sub woofer
Overall this is a great main speaker setup. The sound is crystal clear, the mids and highs are perfect sound reproduction. These speakers should be used with a sub woofer if you are looking for deep rich bass. The Bass on these speakers are exact and punch, but don't fill the room.

$2000 sound at budget price?
by cshamwell ,Mar 27 '04
Pros: Very musical, Very good looking and rich deep base! Cons: So cheap that audiophiles may look past a great system!
And I do mean budget price. These are some of the best speakers I have ever heard...at any price! Clean, sultry and beefy. Whether it's surround sound DVD's or two channel stereo or even 5.1 music, the NS-555's are just absolutely wonderful speakers. It is really hard to believe that Yamaha or anyone else can produce such a great loudspeaker system that's internally wired with Monster Cable, ready for both bi-wiring and banana plugs,three-way/four drivers and enclosed in one of the most strikingly beautiful cabinets ever. Set up was a breeze. I recommend turning the speaker upside down on a carpeted area to install the nice stands that are also included. These are solidly well built speakers so don't expect to snatch these babies around. They weigh just under fifty pounds each. I have found nothing to say negative about these speakers. I still can't believe how good they sound for so little money!!!

Very, very good speakers
by martyn_bg ,Jan 17 '04
Pros: Awesome soundstage and accuracy, top quality drives and enclosure, very stylish. Cons: None, unless you consider the ambience to be factor #1 in speakers.
I did quite a research before purchasing the NS 555. My only fear was that the waveguide horns would impair the ambience of the sound but now I can ensure you that its not that bad. When you change your position in the room you can definitely tell that the placement of the listener matters, but the impairment is not as bad as I thought it would be. On the other hand, the wavehorns make the speakers sound fantastic in almost any environment since the reflected sound is decreased dramatically. As to soundstage and accuracy the speakers are awesome, awesome, awesome! Extremely well balanced speakers! My old Cerwin Vega sound like concert monitors in comparison to the NS 555.
The cabinet and the drives are top quality, and the speakers behave flawlessly in very high volumes without distortion or loosing accuracy and soundstage (when plugged into a decent receiver of course)
Last but not least, those are one of the most stylish speakers you can find on the market.
To recap: you will not regret the purchase, super speakers!
