Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 (PS610U-NGYSG7) PC Notebook

Pros: Works great until it overheats.
Cons: Totally unreliable.

This machine has a problem with overheating. This appears to be a common problem. We have had 3-6000's and one 6100 go down with this same problem. The computer will suddenly and unexpectantly shut down on you.

Pros: Fast, Looks really cool, Very nice screen, Slim-bay Hotswap drive
Cons: Fried HDD x4, fried VGA board x2, POS LEMON,

i purchased the Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 series in june of 2003. VERY fortunately i also got the 3-year extended warranty. sence got the computer the VGA board has died twice and i have burnt out and had to replace 4 hard drives. i have sent the computer in to the depot three
times. i roughly calculated how much Toshiba has had to spend on my computer. $354 in shipping $200 in VGA boards $654 in hard drives ... having Toshiba spend more on the computer you bought than you did PRICELESS. i do really like this computer... when its working. id say the only good thing is that Toshiba's service depot has been really fast and willing to spend a couple thou. in fixing my computer.

Replaced 3 motherboards and 2 hard drives in 14 months
Do NOT BUY THIS MODEL. I used this laptop as my main PC and it worked fine for 6 months then the motherboard died and had to be replaced they sent it back and a day later the hard drive crashed. Currently had to replace 2 hard drives and three motherboards and it is dead again so its sitting in a corner and will never be used again as there is no sense in repairing it for 3 months of service. Toshiba should upgrade or swap these laptops as all have been lemons look at all the ones on Ebay being sold as parts. If automotive manufacturers have a major problem they must recall their product why not computer companies?

Pros: Fast machine, very very nice screen.
Cons: Overheating four times in 10 months to failure, USB 1.x (not 2.0).

Purchased the laptop Satellite Pro 6100 in March 2003. Since then it's been in the Repair Depot four times (I've had the laptop 10 months now).

The machine has overheated numerous times and Toshiba will repair it, but refuses to replace this machine. Each time the machine is out for about ten days. I use this machine in consulting and it's failed at the most embarrassing times - often in front of dozens of Fortune 500 IT executives.

My warranty will expire in two months....Toshiba refuses to address this issue. I've even have been called by Toshiba customer service personnel and they also are "powerless" to do anything about the ongoing issue.

The bottom line is that all companies make mistakes and products will fail from time to time. The real quality comes in how the company deals with their customers' issues in a quality way. Toshiba has a lot to learn here.
