Pros: Many features, rapid rewind/fast-forward on VCR. Cons: Remote control somewhat difficult to learn to use, Sony service and exchange policies awful.
I previously posted the following review of this player: "My Sony D500P arrived yesterday, and I tried two different DVDs, but both played poorly. Each disk starts out playing fine, then starts to stop and start repeatedly, and finally just stops ...

Sony DVD/VCR Combo
by bryanrc ,Jul 24 '04
Pros: Multiple audio/video outs, two formats one deck, progressive scan Cons: Hard to program on universal remotes.
I bought my DVD/VCR combo last August and it works just great. I have had absolutely zero problems. It plays DVDs and VHS tapes very well, the 6 channel audio is near perfect and the options to get the audio/video to you components are plenty. It has component video, optical, and RCA outs as well as standard coax or digital coax. I couldn't be pleased more.

Great Unit but can't utilize Learning Remotes
by caputo ,Dec 26 '04
Pros: Works fine, great for the money. Cons: Can't utilize learning remotes.
This is a second DVD Player for me in that I needed the VCR Player. It works fine utilizing the Supplied Remote control but I have not been able to utilize my numerous other Sony product learning capable remotes. I'm not able to utilize the sophisticated Sony RM-AV3100 integrated Remote Commander that I have finally figured out.

Acceptable combo machine
by cochise_20009 ,Apr 07 '04
Pros: Sony WEGA styling, easy setup. Attractively priced. Cons: No S-Video out on the VCR side, this is a basic unit.
A very nicely styled combination DVD/VCR, no problems to report.
It is what it is, no copy from DVD to VCR, no S-Video out on the VCR side, and no S-VHS native mode. This is a basic player, but it does have component video and progressive scan on the DVD side.
The remote is not as complex as you may have heard, it is definitely not ergonomic but it does the job.
The player (I wouldn't call it a deck) worked well out of the box and was easy to set up.
This unit isn't going to set the world on fire but it seems to be a decent combo player with a few style points that you won't see on competing brands. It seems a bit better to me than the Zenith, etc., but it is more expensive.
