Pros: Compact size. Deep bass response. Excellent build quality. Powerful! Priced right! Cons: Little response at 20 hz. Somewhat hard to see Owner's Manual.
The subwoofer can make or break a really good sound system. The best models shake the listening room without adding too much punch to the upper bass. A lesser model will sound boomy with no really deep room shaking reproduction. This latter type can ...

Pros: Feel The Bass!, It's a Sony, Price, Frequency Range Cons: Let Me Think... Ummmm, None!!!
Intro: I purchased this particular subwoofer online to complement my Philips FW-C380 shelf system. The system already has a "Subwoofer Out", so connection was easy with just one cable. Sony included speaker wire for those people who don't have a ...

THE SUBWOOFER TO BEAT THEM WITH!
by bobby0462 ,Mar 25 '04
Pros: Does the Job of Both Movies and Music! Cons: No Auto on/off switch!
This Subwoofer was my main choice because of price, but when I hooked it up and put Lord Of the Rings in my DVD player I was in for a shock!! This $99.00 little 75 watt monster Rocks! I bought it at best Buys right after I bought a Sony STR-DE595 Receiver, I just didnt get enough bass from my existing speakers, but when I added this sub I was amazed! , the lows are awesome, room shaking, i tried it out on music also, and with the prologic II setting it's nice!, Saving Private Ryan will really test this subwoofer, and it does the job. It has a cut off freq switch for different types of movies and music, plus a Polarity switch
for $99.00 I don't think you will do better and it will beef up your Dolby Digital system!

Wow! What an experience!
by reardonsa ,Jan 18 '04
Pros: Great sound for any sized room. Cons: Settings are hard to get right and may need to be adjusted for different movies.
The floor shakes, the couch moves, the popcorn trembles in your hand, and you've got it on the lowest setting. This subwoofer proves you don't have to be gigantic to produce theater booms and sounds. Packed into this baby is enough power to turn any room into a true movie viewing experience.

Nice!
by bean66 ,Feb 09 '04
Pros: Sounds great for music and movies, cheap. Cons: No automatic shutoff, no remote.
This thing is just great. It's cheap and sounds great too. Don't let the 75 watts bother you-- that's plenty for most of the bookshelf speakers we're all going to use it with anyways. And it actually packs more punch than the 75 watts lets on.
I actually brought home the *150 watt* Yamaha SW215 and compared it to this Sony unit side-by-side. The Sony unit actually sounded louder at lower volume settings and definitely packed more of a punch on bass drums. An explosion from the second fighting scene in "Saving Private Ryan" also had more depth and bass to it, and this is with me making my wife sit with her eyes closed and listen to compare. Perhaps it's because the Yamaha unit is down-firing and my floor is carpeted, but either way the Sony definitely sounded better- for less money.
I'm using it with a Kenwood UD-203 shelf system with two 40 watt main speakers.
People say Sony isn't known for their speakers, but in this case you won't be disappointed!

Sony SA-WM200 Subwoofer
by hal13 ,Feb 01 '04
Pros: A good subwooofer that's priced right and doesn't take up a lot of room. Cons: None. Don't listen to Sony tech support. They don't know what they're talking/emailing about.
This unit works perfectly. Not overpowering, just right. Don't listen to the people at Sony tech support who will tell you that this won't work without a subwoofer output on your receiver. It will. Further, to keep you from getting up to turn this unit off just plug it into the switched outlet on your receiver.
I'm using this in a 20' by 20' bedroom with a pair of Cerwin Vega V-5M bookshelf speakers as the main units, a Jensen center, and a pair of 33 year old homemade Gough enclosure 8" coaxial speakers as rears. It sounds great. The receiver is an old Sony STR-D611. This small subwoofer fills the room with bass and makes this cheap, less than $300, system sound fantastic.
I purchased the sub for $70.00 at Circuit City as an open box unit so I can't comment on the connections that come with it. I'd actually buy it at the regular price. It's worth it.
