Home theater.

by livewire_ , Mar 18 '01
Pros: DTS and Dolby Surround compatible. Inexpensive.
Cons: None that I can identify.
A receiver is one of the most confusing pieces of audio equipment to buy. There's so many different standards and features, it's hard to know what's giong to fit your budget, while still satisfying your household requirements.

The first thing...

Delivers the goods

by tgeorges , Feb 07 '01
Pros: Low price point, good configurability, ease of use, power, phonograph input
Cons: No S-VHS input, optical digital input only.
I'm in the minority here, as I see it. Up until my purchase of this receiver, I was the proud owner of a 15+ year old bargain basement, 20W/channel Magnavox receiver. No DVD. No home theater. But I did have an old pair of EPI speakers that were just...

Technics, they just aren't what they used to be.

by boonkauc , Feb 13 '01
Pros: Cheap, phono input
Cons: Not many features, no S-video, sound quality not very good.
Many years back, I purchased a Technics receiver, and it was one of the best things I ever did. The sound was great and it offered everything I wanted, so naturally when it broke after 19 years of great sound, I was interested in getting another one...

Great System for Price

by cndmo , May 20 '00
Pros: price, options,dts and digital
Cons: layout to setup in back of unit
While I was wondering around store to store looking to replace a 20 yr old receive I came across this system.
While there are others in the market, the Panasonic name still means value and quality for the price. ($399.00 cnd)
While I looked at...

A Great Receiver for a Small Price

by jddcp , Jan 09 '01
Pros: Great Sound for both DD and DTS as well as great stereo sound for music CDs
Cons: Small remote, only has a few DSP modes, not much else though...
Recently, I went looking for a receiver that could decode both DD and DTS. However, my budget was limited to about $300. Well after some careful research, I tried out the Technics 940. I only paid $249 for it and it is well worth the price. I...

piece of crap!

by opsmngr , Jun 02 '02
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Everything else !
We bought this unit because my wives 13 year old jvc unit bit the dust. The first thing I noticed was that this unit got incredibly hot when used. After about 9 months of use it started to overload at about an hour after it was turned on, now it takes...

Good Home Theater Receiver

by mjposner , Jul 07 '06
Pros: Low Price, dolby digital and dts; easy to use
Cons: Runs hot; lousy remote
When I decided to upgrade my pro logic only receiver with a budget of $250 I only had a few local choices. Of these, the Technics had the best features for the money. Setting up he system was easy, and I wasn't worried about heat since the...

Good buy!

by g3blueberry , Jul 17 '01
Pros: Good receiver at the price!
Cons: needs more inputs!
I recently purchased this receiver to replace my older Techincs Pro-Logic receiver. I think for the price
(I paid $349.00 Cdn) it's a great deal! the one thing I miss on the new Techincs receivers is the Parametric equalizer that my old one had....

Derry, Liverpool, UK

by derrycummo , Sep 06 '05
Pros: would take a lot for me to go upgrade to a Cyrus or Niam...
Cons: Still looking.......... give me another 3yrs and I just might find one.
I forget how much I paid for mine now as I bought it as a quick relacement for my last Tech amp wich gave up the ghost suddenly. I didn't even do any reviews, and more or less just bought the first one I saw. (Something I would never recomend) Anyway, I ...

by gikaseixas , May 28 '01
Pros: Clear crisp sound even when heard very loud, inexpensive.
Cons: Chassi should be more solid
I was looking for a very good receiver to replace my year old SONY because i couldn't live with it one more day. I'm a music and movie enthusiastic and this Technics impressed me with its sound. Some other people complain about it running hot after...

Great Reciever for the money
by redwolf754 ,Oct 27 '03
Pros: Great unit for the money
Cons: better ventilation,better remote
I have a Technics SA DX940 Reciever paired up with a technics RSTR333 dual cassette deck and A Technics 5 disc carousel cd changer Tecnics SL D2 Direct drive turntable and an ADC 20 band graphic equalizer.Speaker wise i am using all JBL speakers for my surround sound setup.Video wise i am using an RCA 34 inch flat screen HDTV monitor an RCA DVD player and a RCA VHS high Fi VCR.I am very pleased with this setup .The sound quality is very good of course i am getting quite a boost in frequencies with the EQ.The JBL speakers really make a difference also. This reciever really does crank. It shakes the floors and rattles the windows and i am not even using a subwoofer. This unit does all i need it to.I do however wish it had a couple of more DSP functions but i can live without them i guess.Unit does also tend to get a little warm when it is cranked but i think that the cooling fan will help in heat dissapation. All in all i never had a problem with it
