Pros: Great design, looks, size, and hey the they sound great too! price drop since debut. Cons: Speaker vibrations at high volume. Possible instability on carpet. Build quality? 2 years and counting...
I can not believe there are no reviews on these babies! These were the first speakers I bought to go with my new onkyo receiver. I was very excited about buying speakers and was looking for some in 250 dollar range. I had searched high and ...

First of all, the picture...

First of all, the picture they are showing is of the Polk Audio R50 and the R40 picture is the R50, so get it right guys. I had both speakers as I started out with the R40's and upgraded as you can at C.C. stores. I was really happy when I went to the larger cabinet R50's as was much happier with the increase in bass. I just wish I could of afforded the next step up to get the new design with the choke style bass reflex system, but just turn up your bass gain on your amp, and you will be pleasantly suprised at these speakers. I am pushing them with an HK AVR225 surround receiver and they are simply amazing. I thought my old Sonys' where nice speakers until I brought these home. I cannot wait to get my Velodyne sub out of layaway to finish off my Polk system with that final touch. R50's in the front, R20's in the rear and CS120 center channel. WOW OH WOW does this stuff rock. I am sold on polk and really good sound for the buck too.

Just bought these and realize they're not fully broken in. Sound good with my modest HT system; less satisfied with how they sound with music. I'm switching from pair of JBL bookshelf speakers with transplanted Genelec bass drivers, which gave me some punch; the R40s definitely present a more dynamic sound field for movies. Great buy for the money and should satisfy most modest audio enthusiasts. These are not top of the line speakers, but for the price I haven't been able to find anything that competes.
