Pros: sounds good
Cons: RECALL!!check pioneerelectronics.com
I just purchased this amp from bestbuy, installed
it in my car..runs great.Went to the pioneer
website and registered it.."press release pioneer
announced 3-17-2003 gm-x372,gm-x572,gm-x972
and four ch gm-x374 and 574 return to dealer because of possible short-circuits that may cause the amp to
become inoperable".
Sooo, this begs the question,is best buy selling
equipment completly oblivious to wether or not
there is any recall??
I purchased this amp today 2-27-2004
this thing had a recall since 3-17-2003
too late to call them until tomorrow
Anyone else?

Decent amplifier

Pros: Its a pioneer. Clean sound, low price.`
Cons: Gets hot. Clunky size, Not visually appealing
This amplifier is adequate if you want to drive all 4 speakers in your car, and don't have a need for thousands of watts of power. The amp is physically big, so mounting can be an issue in cramped locations. Usually rectangular amps are easier to fit somewhere, this one is nearly square. The heatsinks of course get very hot during hard listening, and frankly they don't look efficient to me with so few fins, but I haven't had problems.
The recall issue is real and of concern. Look for a dark green dot next to your serial number. If you see one, that unit has had the warranty work done to fix the potential short problem.

Wattage is about 70W/ch maximum, so its good for 2 sets of 6x9 speakers. Can be bridged into a 100W/channel amplifier if you only want to run 2 speakers.
