Excellent Sound
by kashokr ,Apr 23 '04
Pros: Great sound reproduction Cons: Looks bulky and it produces enormous heat.
This is great Receiver. It is my first one too. I have purchased it online at $610. You can connect many audio/video sources and the sound really is great. I have also purchased Bose Acoutimass 15 II series 5.1 speaker system and connected an inexpensive Cyberhome DVD player to play my mp3/vcd/dvd collection. I used Monster Cable digital Co-axial for audio transfer to Onkyo receiver and I am amazed with the sound quality. Perfect speakers and Receiver combination for my entertainment needs.

Awesome sound and simple hook up!
by bigwilly2469 ,Oct 05 '03
Pros: Simple set-up. Incredible sound quality. Lots of features. Low cost. Cons: None so far.
The receiver brings both movies and music alive. It fills my room with clear, crisp sound that usually only comes from much more expensive systems. I have JBL Studio Series speakers and they are a perfect match for the Onkyo. For the money ($600 from Onecall.com), you can't find a better receiver. I highly recommend the Onkyo SR701!

Will not disappoint, even after exhaustive research for quality and price value!
by d12601 ,Sep 18 '04
Pros: Price, quality construction and sound (THX) quality Cons: WHEN I FINE ONE, I WILL POST IT :)
The TX-SR701 provides the punch of any elite unit and delivers a razor sharp celerity in sound reproduction. The reproduction of sound from This THX certified receiver will surprise any owner of higher priced unit. This receiver is not for the "connect the speakers and plug it in" user. If you can not program your VCR, you will need lots of help to get it up and running.
This unit provides elegance and construction quality (no el-cheep-o here) at a price that blows all the others out of the water.
I have seen reviews which state "it generates lots of heat".
Yes it will if you do not provide clearance as per mfg--Note: This is also the case with any other units out there :) so keep it well vented.

Onkyo TXSR-701
by acsuppa ,Jul 18 '04
Pros: Excellent sound and design. This is a great A/V receiver. Cons: not a thing.
Awesome A/V Receiver! The sound quality is amazing. I compared it to a few other receivers out there and the Onkyo TXSR-701 was definitely the best. I have Polk speakers and the Onkyo DV-CP701 DVD player connected to a Flat screen CRT Toshiba TV and the movies look and sound excellent. The remote control is set up with the user in mind. The button placement is perfect. One feature I also like is the on screen menus. They are so easy to navigate. This is definitely a great receiver.

I Love It !!
by mepadron ,May 21 '04
Pros: THX, DTS, Many Features, Tons of Power in 15'x30' Basement HT, half off list price. Cons: I waited to long to buy this.
This receiver is Fantastic. I replaced an aging Sony ES unit in my Home theater with this receiver which is coupled to a Klipsch KG2.5 matched speaker system and a new Velodyne CHT-12 Sub.
The power and sound this receiver emits is unbelievable. I mainly use this unit for Home Theater applications and now I am enjoying movies like never before. Music also sounds superb , it is a very powerful, clean sounding receiver with a alot of bells and whistles (Features).
It took me a couple days of playing aroud with it to get everthing dialed in and now I don't know how I went so long without it. I have it on an open rack and have noticed no heat issues with the unit.
I picked it up at ECOST.com as a refurbished unit for $429 including shipping and added 4 yr warranty to manufacturs 1 yr for $80

Do not buy from Electronics Showroom
by phatstarr ,Mar 23 '04
Pros: They have cheap stuff. Cons: They are completely un-business like in everyway
What I have been able to learn in the short while I have been dealing with these people is that they are completely un-business like in everyway. I think the Electronics Showroom is really just a couple of guys sitting in a one room office acting as a middleman for some larger wholesaler. Half the time I have called them, to get a tracking number which I have yet to get, they aren't even there. If you do manage to catch someone on the phone they sound like they just rolled out of bed.
I bought my receiver online 6 days ago. I have no idea when it will arrive or if its even been shipped. Communication is a foreign word to these people. I have been promised a phone call or email several times and have gotten neither.
