The Konica-Minolta Dimage A2 Best choice in the new eight megapixel prosumer digicam class?

by Howard_Creech Howard_Creech is a Lead on Epinions in Electronics, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Mar 21 '04
Pros: 7X optical zoom, image stabilization, hot shoe, amazingly fast AF, and excellent battery life
Cons: Very complex operation, slightly noisy images
Right on the heels of Konica-Minolta’s superb five megapixel Dimage A1 super-cam comes its eight-megapixel big brother, the new Dimage A2. The A2 (like the A1, Z1, and Z2) was designed by a savvy group of “out of the box” thinkers and ...

Nice Pictures but Fussy Autofocus

by pvreditor Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Oct 05 '05
Pros: Excellent image quality; nicely built; lots of image control features
Cons: Lazy autofocus; weak flash; flash failed after 11 months; does not come with memory chip
I am smitten with digital photography. I bought my first digital camera, a Toshiba 1.3-megapixel model, in 2000, and used it extensively for both professional and personal photography. I traded up to a four-megapixel Toshiba camera in 2002 and took well ...

This is an excellent camera

by dr_roger , Apr 17 '04
Pros: Superb results, anti-shake excellent. Camera easy to hold in the shooting position.
Cons: Be wary of the default auto focus. Use FFP or continuous AF options.
I have recently purchased the Minolta DiMage A2 digital camera here in the United Kingdom. I have a compact FujiFilm Fine Pix as a snapshot digital camera and the results are okay, but nothing had prepared me for the sheer quality of the Minolta A2. ...

Best prosumer bridge camera !

by aristobal , Aug 08 '04
Pros: Best possible zoom range, lots of settings, excellent purple fringing control, autonomy, speed, build quality.
Cons: Sharpness a little disappointing, you NEED post-processing.
The A2 is in my eyes the best digital bridge camera on the market. It is well built, fast, easy to operate. Autonomy is very good (200 pictures, some with flash, and you can buy very cheap batteries on ebay) Its 80-200mm zoom is ideal. Comparing to ...

8 Megapixel camera not ready for primetime

by nabils , Sep 17 '04
Pros: Anti-Shake feature and battery like
Cons: Below average photo quality, significant loss of details.
I have owned Dimage 7 and Dimage 7hi before buying Dimage A2, this camera has major flaws, very soft images regardless of what settings you change on the camera, auto focus is out of focus more than %50 of the time, yellowish while in most shots with ...

2 years of experience with the A2

by wstaso , Aug 21 '06
Pros: Reliable camera with outstanding qualities
Cons: Slow in focusing in low light (manual focus better), sometimes slow in shutting down
I have been using the A2 continuously since I purchased it in February 2004. I have not experienced the out-of-focus shots cited by others. I still have the same battery and it provides 200-300 photos consistently (I have a 1 GB and two 512K cards). ...

Minolta Dimage A2:Superior to the A1

by djs470 , May 08 '04
Pros: Virtually everything so far (2mo of use), especially the crystal EVF and image stabilization
Cons: Manual zoom is slightly rough; 8MP sensor gets rather warm;noise at higher ASA's
This is the 4th digital camera for my family (Sony, Olympus & Panasonic). All were higher end with 10X zooms or greater, and this camera is generally far superior to the others. Photo quality is stunning, controls and menus are logical and become ...

It's Here!

by hangloose , Mar 09 '04
Pros: Sturdy, 8 megapixel resolution, well built
Cons: Pricey
I finally decided to purchase the Dimage A2 over the other 8 megapixel cameras in large part, because of the anti-shake capability. The camera arrived a couple of days ago and we've been getting to know each other. The A2 is built of metal, not ...

Great Looks and functions, suspect color, flat, muddy LCD
by ramsfan195 ,May 26 '05
Pros: Very nice features, anti-shake, nice manual zoom.
Cons: overpriced, over-hyped, quality not up to snuff.
I bought one of these in November 2004. Since day one I have been suspect of this camera. The color is seldom on, the contrast is flat, the flash--unless you are less than 10 feet away shoots way too dark. I should have to work so hard using image software to make a picture look good when it should look good out of the camera. They are consistently "muddy" (an understatement) and off color. I own 3 other high end digital cameras, I believed all of the hype and I am disappointed. It's such a nice camera with so much potential. However, I just sent my camera in for repair to Konica/Minolta and I hope that I just have a defective camera that has a bad imager (CCD), and I am not told that this is just how the camera is. I noticed another reviewer seemed to have a similar problem. If this is the case and they can fix it to be fair I will re-write a good review!

Strengths and weaknesses of the A2
by johnsondanl ,Mar 31 '05
Pros: image stabilization, sharp optics, VGA viewfinder, extensive controls, excellent battery life, logical user interface
Cons: noise above ISO 200, poor autofocus performance with motion, filter vignetting at minimum zoom.
This is a light, portable DZLR that is a wonderful point-and-shoot capable of sizable enlargements if care is used. All digital images benefit from post-processing, but this camera is capable of great flexibility using in-camera processing once the extensive controls are studied and learned. They are not complex, but are so numerous that even though the functions are well laid out, it simply takes a few hundred shots and lots of practice to master them and become adept.
This is *not* a professional camera, but is small and light and capable, excellent as the sole camera on trips.
I have four batteries and 3 one-MB CF cards, which are adequate for short trips.
To get better overall performance, you'll have to spend at least twice as much.

A2 has some production quality issue
by midicool ,Apr 11 '04
Pros: Dazzling manual functions. Amazing overall picture quality.
Cons: Manufacturing quality. Too much noise.
I recently returned an A2 that I bought from a Wolf Camera store.

My first A2
- It had some LCD and EVF problem. When I tried to shoot an object that's near a bright light, I could clearly see some weird blinking and distortion of the image. I had to exchange this to a new one.

My second A2
- After shooting some scenes of blue sky, I found out there was a big dark circle showing up on every picture. I had to return the product.

Excellent Camera
by raybinstane ,Aug 12 '05
Pros: Very accurate color. Very long battery life. ease of use or complex. (your Choice)
Cons: I still haven't figured out all it can do!!!--this also may be a good thing
I have had this camera for almost 8 months now, and have taken probably 1000 shots. I have used it from everything from indoor portrait, to outdoor, to night-time, I've shot in sub-zero and over 90degrees.
I love this camera, I have had NO problems at all.

Pros: Low light pictures without flash are excellent Controls intuitive. Virtually no shutter delay
Cons: Spot metering controls not the most intuitive.
The ability to take low light pictures without a flash is outstanding. The anit-shake function really works.

Most controls are intuitive. The pictures are sharp.

Virtually not delay between pressing the shutter and taking the picture.
