Pros: Affordable, easy to use, fair quality binocular, convenient digital camera function, makes a great gift. Cons: Maximum 640x480 resolution, poor camera image quality, only 8MB non-expandable memory.
Take a look at another larger image of the Meade CaptureView CVB1002, on my profile page.
Why did I buy it?
You guessed it. Chalk up another win for the inner gadget geek. I few...

Pros: Handy, effective, easy to use, great value for the money. Cons: Poor batterly life, lose of pics when batteries die
This is the 8x22 base model binocular with integrated digital camera. They feel like regular binoculars (9.3 ounces and 4.5''x3.5''x2.2'')and for the most part they look like regular binoculars too. The digital camera and lense are built into the mid sect ...

Pros: Great concept to get better zoom pictures. Cons: Must download pictures immediately before battery runs out and instructions were in error.
I purchased the Meade Captureview Digital Camera Binoculars. I took some test pictures in the house and lighting was bad so pictures came out horrible. That was okay, did not expect to work good, just testing. I took pictures outside and they came out ...

Fun learning tool for kids
by mehoworth ,Jan 03 '04
Pros: When working properly, easy to use and makes fair pictures. Cons: Quality issue one of two doesn't work. Carrying strap can push control buttons when walking.
I bought one for each of my two grandchildren, and they love to explore and take pictures with them. Downloading is easy, but editing software is not the best. One of the two has a defective camera and will not hold pictures for more than a couple of minutes, then seems to short and erase everything. But, the one that works is a great learning tool for a 10-year-old.

great as binoculars only
by gatewaylorrie ,Oct 09 '04
Pros: binoculars are great Cons: digital camera should be non-existant
These binoculars are very compact, light weight, and easy to focus. As for the camera, very disappointing. The pictures it takes are very poor. The position of the button to take the picture is in kind of a bad spot, so it seems like no matter what you do, you can't keep it still enough not to take a blurry picture. The life of the batteries is short, and the unit has a battery saver, which automatically shuts off the camera portion after a short time, too short. When you are trying to focus, it kicks off. I purchased this because I am a bird watcher and thought I would be able to get a closer picture using these. But after downloading the pictures and having to search each picture for the bird, I realized, this just won't work for that sort of thing. I tried for about 3 months to experiment with it and the only few good pictures it took were landscape pictures. My regular camera does a better job doing that as well. The binoculars are great though, even for birdwatching.

Poor Pics and Memory
by wendabbad ,Sep 20 '04
Pros: It does do a good job at being binoculars. Cons: Pricey set of binoculars, poor picture quality, malfunctions.
The battery life is awful and if the battery goes so do your pictures. The battery compartment actually had a malfunction and camera would turn off sporadically and dump the pictures. Very disappointed in performance and value. We purchased it as a close out item on Discovery.com. Now we know why it was a close out. If you do not hold completely still while taking picture it will be blurry and out of focus. Very poor action photos.
