Pros: stylish and metallic lid, like most vaio laptops its eye-catching, and great for DVDs Cons: overpriced, warrenty, loud clicking sound , newer models missing jog dial, and the screen
I purchased this laptop from Circuit City in April of 2003, it was such a waste of money and the store ripped me off by including a rebate with the computer that costed me 400$, this is an outrage a gift card is suppose to be free and not a purchase. ...

Avoid This Laptop Like the Plague
by imissthewar ,Jul 15 '04
Pros: Nice feature set, good screen, clean touchpad, numerous connection capabilities, memory stick slot. Cons: Horrid reliability, overheating problems, USB ports are only 1.1, not 2.0, terrible customer service.
I purchased this laptop used, it was one year old. It worked fine for a month or so, and then it would not boot up at all. Turns out these things are notorious for their terrible cooling systems which can cause overheats, which of course leads to another myriad of problems. Another problem is the memory slots will over time become disconnected from the motherboard! Sony charges $700 to fix this!
Also, Sony will deny any design flaws in any of the Vaio systems, their customer service is beyond horrible. I believe there is a class action lawsuit in the works against Sony due to the terrible reliability of their laptops
If you are purchasing a used laptop (considering these aren't made anymore) look to IBM, Dell or Emachines. If you want a nice, purple paperweight, or need to prop a working laptop a couple inches off your desk, look into the Vaio.

Recommend a better model
by marvelous-3 ,Mar 02 '04
Pros: Great feel and great customer service Cons: Overheating, Overheating, Overheating
The model would be great if not the main problem that everyone seems to have...overheating. If you have this on your lap you WILL burn yourself in a very short amount of time. It overheated so much on mine the computer crashed and I had to send it to Sony to have it fixed. The model was only 8 months old and they had to replace 4 items in the laptop, main one being the whole processor. I think they added some things to stop the overheating because the overheating has not been as bad since the repair. I love the way the computer works, keyboard, screen everything, and Sony does have great and patient customer service. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt that this is just a fluke model and get an upgraded model of the Vaio.

An expensive mistake
by agp8b ,Jan 23 '05
Pros: Stylish, nice big screen Cons: Overheating, shutting down, needs expensive repairs, heavy, laud.
Overheating, shutting down unexpectedly, fan gets clogged with dust. Finally shut down and fried the motherboard after 1.5 years of use. Possibly a faulty processor as well. Will cost over $900 to repair. Poor customer service. Will not buy again!!!
