Pros: The 1400x1024 screen is beautiful, bright, clear, and easy-to-read - AMAZING! Cons: The screen fades slightly when looking at an angle.
I absolutely love my new ThinkPad T40 237392U. It is thin, fast, light, powerful, wireless, and stylish. It has beautiful hi-res 14.1" 1400x1024 screen, 512MB RAM, ATI Mobility RADEON 9000 32MB DDR 4x AGP graphics card, a CD-RW/DVD, 80GB HD, Gigabit ...
Expensive but well worth the money by ariel74 ,Mar 16 '04
Pros: Light, durable, good battery life, lots of great features. Cons: Range of built in wireless is not so great. Expensive
I bought this laptop to replace my Comapq 1722US PIII 1.13 ghz and boy was I glad I did it.
The Compaq hinge to the LCD was very fragile. You can feel the looseness of the LCD and with the T40, you can open and close it as much as you want and it still feels like it's on there stable. Battery life is great. I can watch a whole DVD on the battery and still have plenty of battery time to surf the internet and do some light chatting.
The only thing I was disappointed in was the built in wireless. I have the 802.11 a/b combo card and the range is not that great with my D-Link 614+. I tried switching channels and still did not help. I then tried my old Orinoco gold and silver classic cards. Much better range than with the built in card.
Some of the things I didn't really care for with the IBM was the "hidden" image. I would rather install the apps myself. This is good though for those who don't know how to install an operating system and configure it themselves.
Pros: Powerhouse with all the bells and whistles, plus. Cons: Bluetooth drivers a little challanging but works great once you get them installed properly.
Light and feature packed. This laptop even with a high capacity battery is extremely light. Key board is as good as everyone says it is. Built in bluetooth works great with PDA and 802.11b is better than an add on pcmcia card. Most likely due to built in antenna. Pentium M is faster than my compaq (great laptop) 2.4g P4. If yo can afford it buy it. Three year warranty should tell you that if manufacturer is willing to stand behind a product that long than it must be good.
Pros: Built-in and integrated wireless with CPU and chipset Cons: Not quite multi-media notebook
If you are looking for work notebook that you will run Office applications and connect to different networks including Ethernet and Wireless, this is a good notebook to consider. The mobile technology, Centrino, integrates Pentium M, chipset and wireless components to provide stable and optimized environment. This support 11 mbp wireless which is "b" standard. Most of hotspots only support this standard anyway at this time (2005-01-12). That includes Starbucks' T-mobile hotspots. Enjoy your coffee while surfing with this IBM ThinkPad T40.
