The IBM T21 - a Terminator of a laptop

by daily-llama , Dec 28 '04
Pros: Tough, generally easy to use, reliable.
Cons: Produces lots of heat, trackpoint mouse takes some getting used to.
I've finally joined the modern world, and got a computer that doesn't have the processor speed of a little hamster running around his wheel. The computer I ended up buying was an IBM thinkpad T21. So what exactly did I get for my money? The ...

Perfect for the power student

by markwhitewolf , Dec 30 '04
Pros: Powerful, fast, big screen, light-weight
Cons: Gets a little warm
Well, I just got this computer, and I wouldn't regret it for a moment. I just traded my very outdated ThinkPad 560 in for this gem of a T21 and I love everything about it. I know, I know, people say it gets hot. Well, when you concider that the ...

IBM Thingpad T21 disappointing benchmark score

by dragancickaric , Dec 23 '05
Pros: However, this is considered as a top class notebook and it is really is.
Cons: The prise approaching the new low end model, having in mind upgrading is necessary
here is my configuration IBM Thingpad T21, 750MHz, 128Mb RAM, 8Mb Graphic card "S3 Savage IX",10Gb HDD and 13.3" LCD. I have been using this “second hand” Thinkpad T21 for one mount. Talking in general (having in mind that this is 2001 model), ...

T21 for Life
by twenty3sky ,Jan 20 '06
Pros: reliabilty, customer service, access Thinkpad, drop-able, Titanium alloy...
Cons: i someday must give it up
I am a full time developer who has used this machine a minimum of 12 hours a day for 4 years. This is truly the finest machine out there. I have never had a problem and have never even had to reload this box. Which is just insane. This machine has seen the world including 3rd world countries where I could feel a slight shock in the corner of the keyboard from improperly run electricity. Still not a hitch. still fast enough to run graphics programs and anything you can throw at it. In a word, "wow".

I am sad the day will come when I must upgrade to a new thinkpad as computers are my business and I need a PC under warranty (just in case).

But as for now, this is still my baby 4 years later...

IBM Thinkpad T21 2647 AU a nice puppy
by elangene ,Nov 21 '05
Pros: sleek, versatile, long battery , light weight, soft keyboard
Cons: needs more RAM 256 ok, but should have atleast 512 mb RAM for 800Mhz pc
dear friends
i got this thinkpad from ebay second seller and it was the best piece. i have 256 MB RAM with dvd rom driver, so i listen to music and also browse websites without any problem, some times i open 5 - 6 explorer window and also work with excel files, i have XP operating system and this system flies, without much problem. The Thinkpad is sleek and light weight so u really down feel bugged up to move aroung with laptop, the tiny nipple like structure ,mouse, of the laptop, needs some more practice, so i am using external mouse to work with, i went through this forum before buying the thinkpad T21 and also recommend this laptops for students ,and others who does not like to shed more money for a lpatop, thinkpadT21 is the cheapest option.

Outstanding for a P3
by jwc553911 ,Sep 01 '04
Pros: Fast, Lightweight, Tough cover, DVD, USB. Love the Trackpoint.
Cons: Only 1 USB slot
I have had this laptop for about 3 months now, bought it used at auction. It came with 256MB of ram. It has done everything from run Windows XP Pro SP2, Office 2003, Quicken 2004 and watch DVD movies on DVD Express flawlessly. (Not all at the same time though) I was so impressed with the ThinkPad line that I decided to buy a new ThinkPad R40 2681-4GU, and let me tell you that I sent it back within a week. My P3 800 MHz blew the 1.8 Celeron away. I even upgraded the Ram in the T21 to 512 and it got nothing but better.

Tough Durable Powerful
by betabilly ,Nov 29 '05
Pros: Durable and powerful enough for office and mobile work.
Cons: Wish it had more than 1 USB port.
Mine is refurbished, the 256meg memory is adequate for having 7 browser windows open while running AVG or adaware. Having a G2 wireless card in addition to an internal ethernet/modem it has complete connectivity. The DVD drive plays movies so well it's hard to believe it has only 8mb video memory. This T-21 is so simple, I have no trouble taking it along on my daily journeys, I lay it it on my car's console with a map program running. I've bought 3 notebooks in the past 5 years and the T-21 is the one I want to keep.

Now This is a LapTop.
by darwindante ,Sep 28 '03
Pros: Quiet
Compact
User Friendly

Cons: I don't think they make a red model.
I have had this LapTop for about 6 months now, and never had any problems.

In the past, I owned a Dell Latitude (see my review on that little number) and would buy another IBM computer in the future.

Track Point Mouse

The little track point mouse is located between the G and H keys on your keyboard, I have never accidentally hit this little red nub while writing an e-mail. I was also able to override the track mouse by hooking up my external mouse. (Which by the way is a Dell, but made by Microsoft. Funny how that works.)

The Fan

The fan for this machine is quiet. Much quieter than on the Dell Laptops. I also have found that my machine does not heat up after extended use. (See my Dell review)

Easy to Use

I have found this machine very easy to use and set up is virtually non-existent. It's a laptop, so everything you need, comes with the machine.
