leica c3

Pros: low light pics
Cons: a bit too light
I have been using this camera for one year,I bought it
because i wanted a quality camera that could produce quality
photos.I have not been dissapointed. When used with top
quality film the results have been outstanding, rich colours, accurate skin tones and blue skies that look fantastic. The flash is very powerful and red eye is a problem even with the reduction.Low light pictures without flash are superb as long as high speed film is used. The lens is very sharp but at the same time portrait shots seem to have a pleasant softness about them, making them look very natural and professional, but not too soft. What i don"t like is the camera is a bit on the light side, extra care is needed with slower films to avoid camera shake.Overall i am very pleased with it and intend on using it for many years.Once used to them the controls become second nature. The zoom is smooth and 28-80mm is perfect. One thing i would reccomend is to get the best from the Leica C3 always use good quality film and processing, you won;t be dissapointed with what this camera is capable of.

Not too shabby

Pros: -Infrared focus works without a headlight -Flash angle auto set by focus distance
Cons: -Battery consumption
I bought this camera intended to be my last 35mm point and shoot camera of my life, and wanted to make it count as a good one - so I went for the Leica. In many ways it is a great machine - The body is clean and simple, making it not stand out as an expensive camera, however it is a bit big and clunky in comparison to say, a stylus zoom. Certainly the best features that work extremely well are the IR autofocus, and the flash. The flash works best for indoor stuff, the flash angle is automatic based on the distance of the focus. It works great for that, my nightclub shots are great. The zoom range is pretty good too. The only thing that really bugs me is somewhat minor. This camera seems to chew batteries. I have had it for four months, and have taken about 10 rolls a month. I am now on my third battery. Oh well, small cost to pay for a great lens, and ease of use.

I bought my Leica C3...
by adrian_holmes_dt3000 ,Jan 12 '03
I bought my Leica C3 about 5 weeks ago and have since shot about 6 films , including 2 slide films. My specific comments are as follows: - Metering is spot on, even for slides. No spot metering, but it does expose very accurately - The flash is very powerful, - The lens is marvellous with rich colours (quite amazing by comparison with my previous compact zooms). Excellent detail and sharp contrast when you need it. This is what you're paying for and this is what I believe you get. - It's got a Timed release button for long exposures. - Lens flare is almost non existent - great for shooting into the sun. On the negative side - Some of the handling is a little quirky, but you soon get the hang of it, and it isn't as small as most compact zooms. Overall it's a lovely camera which takes really wonderful photo's for a camera in this price range, and I'd definitely recommend it.

Dropped mine twice, but still...
by photonut_dt3001 ,Jan 18 '03
Dropped mine twice, but still working perfectly. Truly wonderful photos, the vario-elmar is a gem: fast, rich colours, excellent contrast, no flare and almost non existent distortion. Active AF and metering are spot on. Flash is a muscular affair with excellent range, even with 200 speed film. Actually bought the Yashica Tzoom, but was disappointed, so traded it in for the C3. Only negatives are its relatively large size and the fact that you have to scroll through all the modes with one button, which take some time. Some need up to 10 prods before you get to them. But all in all, great P&S, will be my standard carryall from now on.
