Pros: works
cheap Cons: slow
lockups
My cd ROM stopped working so i went to fry's electronics to buy another one. They had a Sony for $60 another brand for $65 and two generic brands that were 56x and 54x. I got the 54x """""(MAX)"""" cd ROM unopened box with the inspector's sticker still untouched.
The cd rom works but....
Instead of 54x most of the time its about 12-13x clocked with Nero cd ROM speed program. It does go faster after running something for about 3 mins, but it is clocked at only 24x with Nero cd ROM speed program. I do not know whether if it goes faster, but with the Nero program, it clocks my 48x cd RW at 48x with the same cd that was used in the 54x test. Lastly, when I install programs, it tells me in the middle of the install that the driver is not reading. I would not recommend this cd ROM because there are many cd ROMs out there that do not have this problem. I wish they would release a driver to fix this problem. In closing, I hope fry's electronics will take it back without all the packaging.
