Cutting to the Chase About the Fellowes PS80C-2 Shredder

by quasar Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, May 07 '05
Pros: does cut paper into fairly small pieces when it works, handles staples (sort of)
Cons: pulls paper unevenly, papers can get stuck and unsticking them gets messy, awkward height
I've never been one to feel like every personal document needs to be shredded, nor has shredding paper ever been a big part of my job. Thus I've not been more than a very casual user of paper shredders. This led me to erroneously believe that, give or ...

Awesome little shredder

by marksman , Jul 11 '04
Pros: 10 sheet capacity; shreds CCs, CDs, staples and small paperclips; large built-in wastebasket
Cons: Could be considered pricey for light-duty use
After one of my friends had her identity stolen, I decided that my wish to have a shredder was not born out of paranoia, but dire reality. However, I didn’t want a cheap POS strip-cut shredder that would break after a couple of months and still allow ...

Flawed product

by carrij , Mar 23 '05
Pros: Shreds quickly.
Cons: Needs to be replaced after a very short period of time.
My office has this shredder for every day shredding of company and client documents. According to Fellowes this shredder can handle 10 sheets of paper at a time, with 50-100 passes per day (500-1000 pieces of paper, or 1-2 reams of 20# paper). To keep ...

What a piece of junk!

by plover12 , Nov 22 '07
Pros: When it works, it works reasonably well.
Cons: At the cost of the shredder, I spent seventy dollars a box to shred documents.
We've had a Fellowes PS80C-2 for a couple of years and hardly used it. About a month ago, I finally decided to shred some documents from a deceased relative, and at first, the shredder worked okay. I won't accept anywhere near the advertised 10-page ...

I'd pick another brand.

by pbanks7 , Jul 24 '03
Pros: Worked good for 1.4 years.
Cons: Not built to last.
For normal office use, I'd pick another brand. Ours died after 1.4 years and I was informed that aft ...

just rcvd this - I'm impressed

by ruggb , Jan 27 '04
Pros: plenty of power, nice colors, no need to remove heavy head to empty
Cons: none yet.
I just rcvd this unit to replace an FS60CC that ate up another plastic gear (2nd time-every gear but 1 is steel). This one has a much lower pitched sound and sounds like it could chew thru a 1/4 inch board. With 10 sheets I could barely tell it was ...

It shreds like a mutha

by fuzzy_elvis , Sep 15 '00
Pros: I can easily destroy confidential papers and not worry about someoen being sneaky
Cons: none
We have this shredder in our office just for occasional shredding of confidential papers. Mostly we keep all papers here at work in storage and it’s a mess! But sometimes there are things they don’t want binded and stored, so off to the shredder I go....

An overworked shredder

by veryillusive , Jun 05 '01
Pros: Good for light duty use only. Not recommended for medium to heavy office use.
Cons: Shredding five to ten sheets a day, the machine just gave out.
In my opinion, this machine was purchased for our office without any input from our staff. Needless to say the machine was to small for our application. I was amazed it lasted this long. This seemed to be a great deal for an occasional use shredder....

Don't waste your time or money
by malwood ,Aug 27 '04
Pros: Smooth operation initially.
Cons: No spares or after sales support out of warranty. Unreliable.
The after-sales service seemed good for the first year but the 7 year cutter warranty was never likely to be claimed against because the other components failed shortly after the first year.

No spare parts are available for the product so when it goes wrong out of warranty there is no option other than to bin it. What a waste!!!

This shredder is not fit for the purpose for which it was sold. Fellowes misrepresent the quality of the product by offering the 7 year cutter warranty which implies that the equipment will be serviceable for at least that period of time.

Don't get caught..buy another brand..Give Fellowes a miss.

worth every penny
by gaian1 ,May 19 '06
Pros: tough and solid gears. confetti cutting. auto-on/off.
Cons: pricey, but worth it.
This shredder rocks. it is bombproof in its mechanisms and i can't imagine being able to jam it. just shove in the whole envelope of junk mail and watch it disappear.

the confetti cut is the only way to go. why shred something that would take someone a few hours to reconstruct? with confetti cutting the task is 100 times harder. even if they get all pieces they won't be able to rebuild it.

Terrible Shredder
by dnmoore ,Sep 25 '06
Pros: It's heavy, repeatedly lifting the PS80C-2 off the bin for repairs is like weight training.
Cons: It cannot shred paper in any reliable capacity, and can cause employee psychosis
The PS80C-2 is the only shredder I have used thus far, but I can say that it must be among the worst available. This shredder is messy, temperamental, and frustrating. Every third time I use it, it jams. You can only shred two or three pages at a time, and even then it will manage to jam. The paper is always pulled to the side, where it inevitably folds over. It makes no difference how you load it, as the paper will pull sharply to the side due to the design of the steel teeth. The reverse function is useless, as when the paper jams the whole shredder shuts down, requiring pliers and screwdrivers to repair, and leaving you with a pile of confetti all over the room. Unplugging this massive contraption, cleaning it, and then plugging it back in again, only to repeat ad nauseam is effective at causing the operator to contemplate the futility of the human struggle, but unless you need a nihilistic workforce I highly suggest any other shredder.

It clogs itself.
by upstream ,Feb 21 '05
Pros: Nothing special for office-class shredder
Cons: It gets clogged with shredded paper by itself
My company bought this shredder December, 2004. We haven't use it much because of its major flaw: it clogs itself with shredded paper.

The shredding power is good. It can shred a credit card without difficulty. But after some shredding, the shredded pieces stick to the roller and cause the roller jam. The machine stops there after it senses overload.

The clogging can be easily removed by manually reversing the roller with the top switch(by engaging "R".) But this shredder is my first shredder which requires additional attention beyond emptying the bin.

Then, it is a not good shredder. Isn't it? Luckily my office have two more shredder and we can handle our demand without resorting to this clog-prone machine.

Fellows PS80C-2 Owner
by taxmannh ,Oct 22 '04
Pros: No Pros
Cons: No replacement parts other than blades
I've owned two of these dogs. The shredder works fine until one of the plastic fingers or guides between the cutting wheels breaks. Then the cuttings get jambed causing more and more teeth to break. They will sell you new metal blades but if its a part made of plastic they don't have them for sale.

The real problem is the plastic used is about as strong as the plastic on a plastic model. Add to this the fact Fellowes doesn't sell the replacement part you need. The answer I just got on the phone was you'll have to buy another shredder. At $200 a pop I don't think so, it's time for a new company.

Bottom-line don't waste your money on a company that can't supply replacement parts even if it's a low-end machine in their eyes.

Built to Break
by mister_man ,Nov 11 '04
Pros: Cheap, too cheap
Cons: You name it!
Probably the biggest disappointment was when I opened the internal housing. Plastic gears? For such a high torque device there is only one explanation for this obvious flaw. Designed in flaws. The American automobile manufactures learned a long time ago: Product Quality equals satisfied (repeat) customers. Now just try to find the parts... Google: Fellows shredder part Return: Good Luck!
