Pros: mystery, Michael Caine's charisma, Mike Hodges fine eye for grit. Cons: slow, has many sick moments, very introverted and melancholy in character.
Michael Caine stars as Jack Carter. A chain smoking, reserved-but-nosy man of working class distinction with Gangster ties. He travels to Newcastle for his brother's funeral and to check on his niece- who is something of a brick wall. ...

Pros: Strong screen presence of Michael Caine; strong noir script and atmosphere; strong casting Cons: Won't appeal to viewers who get bummed out by antiheros
Why is it that so many viewers enjoy watching a hard-nosed, cold-blooded antihero for a couple of hours, as he engages in a brutal campaign of vengeance? I suppose it's because each of us has aggressive and violent tendencies in our subconscious, no ...

Pros: Caine's finest performance. Brutal unflinching character study. Cons: Subject matter is now too familiar.
This little seen gem features perhaps Michael Caine's finest performances in a taught, dark, perfectly realized character study of a professional killer who truly believes in only one law of the jungle: Revenge.

Pros: casting, script, direction, cinematography, pacing, sets Cons: violence and/or nudity may offend some viewers, sometimes the story and characters isn't clear
Did Michael Caine ever make an 'X' rated film? Surprisingly, the answer is Yes. Made in an era when respected films like Midnight Cowboy and A Clockwork Orange received the 'X' rating, Get Carter had enough violence and nudity to...

Pros: Superb example of early 70s British writing and film making Cons: Occasionally poor sound on dialoug
Get Carter opens with Jack's gangland boss pointing out to Carter that he would be best served to simply let his dead brother (who appears to have driven his car in to a river in a drunken stupor) rest, and not to stir up trouble with the Newcastle mob....

Pros: Newcastle setting, cinematography, michael caine Cons: the american remake, britt eckland
Newcastle, the perfect setting for a perfect film. It wasn't used as a major film location until over 15 years later with Mike Figgis' Stormy Monday, which amazes me. I think its the star of the film. Osbourne as Kinnear is a revelation, effete and yet...
