Pros: Excellent reception, stereo sound, power is adequate for bookshelve type speakers.
Cons: Outdated Dolby pro logic, not 5.1 Not suitable for home theater use these days.
I purchased this brand new from Goodguys(remember them?) way back in 1996 or 1997 now considered a dinosaur, have since upgraded to 5.1 dolby digital which is leaps and bounds better then pro-logic, but continued to use the old 590 for my gym and garage duties. My "garage" system consists of two pairs of Klipsch ksb 1.1's which I run in a four channel stereo configuration and an old Sony 5 disc cd changer from the same era, I actually get alot of complements from my friends, they seem to think for a garage system it rocks. I agree with the previous post that the DSP is pretty much useless as this sort of thing does not turn me on. But nevertheless I have been reluctant to part with the old girl as it is still a solid performer if you just want a stereo receiver not intended for surround sound and you stumble across one of these used get it.
