Pros: Warmth and clarity, DSP soundfields Cons: None
Purchased this receiver about 2 months ago at Good Guys for $300. I had previously used JVC and Sony receivers but was a bit dissapointed with the harshness of the Sony receiver. I looked at receivers from JVC, Kenwood and Onkyo (for Dolby Digital)...
Pros: Great sound, nice remote, plenty of inputs and outputs, good looks Cons: None
Overview
Actually I have a RX-V496, which, as another reviewer mentioned, is the same as the RX-V495 but with 70 watts per channel instead of 60. It sounds great, is easy to use, and is unobtrusive.
Pros: Stable to 145WPC with its dynamic power, 6-channel external inputs, subwoofer output, 5 channel comparable power. Cons: None
My first experience with this receiver was 5 months ago. At that time I was actively employed in the industry. I wanted to buy a full performance digital receiver, and Yamaha for years had been an innovative leader in surround sound. The RXV-495 is...
Pros: Ease of Use, Great Remote, Sound Quality Cons: None
First of all, I have the upgraded model of this receiver, the Yamaha RX-V496. The only difference between this one and the one that I have is that mine has an output of 70 watts per channel as opposed to 60 watts per channel on the RX-V495.
Pros: Incredible sound, excellent quality, vast array of features Cons: no night cinema mode
I purchased this reciever for christmas of 2000. The recivever has not had a blip or problem since. There is a multitude of connections on the back, including Fiber optic and digital coax on the back. It also has S-Video switching, which allows you to...
Pros: Great sound, LOTS of power, good looking. Cons: No 5.1, no sub. output.
I got this one off a friend of mine for $100. It looked stable and Yamaha has a good name for itself so I gave it a try. Evidently the price isnt really high for this either way, but I still feel I got a great bargain! The sound this thing produces is...
I was really surprised for what I got at for $400 price tag. This receiver makes every single DVD in my collection sound like I'm in a full fledged theater. The seemingly small power rating(60watts) doesn't hinder the sound one bit, and really...
Yamaha RX-V495 a review after 8 years! by chelle8265 ,Mar 11 '08
Pros: Great sound, great remote (I use this remote for all of my electronic equipment!). Cons: It's a little big, but that's how they were made back then!
I purchased this receiver in 1998, and although I'm just a regular person (not a stereo expert) who loves to watch movies in surround sound, I think it's just great! But, after 8 years, I noticed the sound from my front right and rear left speakers isn't working. After troubleshooting (i.e. plugging in, unplugging, switching, switching back) and ruling out the speakers being the problem, we figured it's the processor for the effects (Disco, Movie Theater, etc) -- when I turned off the Effect, the speakers worked fine. So, if you're having the same problem, it's probably time for a new one. Just wanted to let you know!
