When my son showed interest in the stars and planets, my husband purchased a telescope. It is a Bushnell Deep Space 420x high powered telescope. A family friend highly recommended it saying that he and his son greatly enjoy it.

I got the Bushnell Telescope 420X about a two years ago for free in a promotional effort, and I have been very pleased with it. I like to take it up to Mount Bonell to look at the moon and other major heavenly bodies.

This $15 garage-sale find (brand new, never even removed from the box) has brought nothing but great things! Easy to assemble, easy to lock-in views, full-range tripod, and all kinds of goodies (90-degree angle-lens, 5mm & 20mm lenses, 3x lens addition, erector lens, etc...even comes with a "screwdriver" for assembly). Anywho, for a beginner, this is a great product for me.
