ViewSonic V35 Pocket PC

Pros: Fast, bright screen, colorful graphics, crisp, loud sound through the included speaker, "smart battery."

Cons: Cannot install upgrades. Drivers are buggy. No customer support. No fixes available.

After 7 months of uninterrupted difficulties and deteriorating performance, I can no longer recommend the ViewSonic v35 to anyone. ViewSonic refuses to offer any fixes and their customer support is more aggravating than helpful.

Do not buy this unit!

This is my first PDA. I bought it for use as a Directory,a Scheduler and for a bit of occasional Note-taking. I bought it because of the operating system (Microsoft Mobile)thinking that it would effectively interface with my P.C.. After the past month, I have to say that as a new user it fulfills all my requirements completely. ViewSonic is not highly advertised but enjoys a good reputation with me because of their monitors' performance. There may be some disappointment with the product from some individuals because of their expectations, but so-called power users should look at the top of the line from other manufacturers. I'm happy with my V35.

Two months ago the PDA screen developed a black line through the display about two-thirds down. I contacted the customer service asking their input. They provided NONE other than get rid of the machine and get a new one. Very disappointed as to the lack of communication. I would be afraid to buy anything from Viewsonic that would require service after the sale.
Reading over the initial review, I'm sorry that I gave such a strong "buy" recommendation.

great pda the screen is the best one out there and even though the memory is low when you put in an SD card and paste shortcuts then even that is not a problem

I bought the V35 based mostly on it having the brightest display (among other nice features). I was concerned about the 64 meg of RAM providing only 36 megs useable. However, I figured that this problem would easily be overcome by the insertion of a 256 MB Secure Digital card. Here is the problem. Viewsonic took 5 MB of memory left over from ROM and provide this as a Flashdisk. The system sees this as "storagecard 1". Although the V35 manual indicates that you can have Apps save by default to your SD card, PocketWord, Notes, Inbox only allow you to default to storagecard 1! That means a whopping 5 Megs--not much. So I have a 256 MB card which I have to manually drag everything to when I want to save out--very poor!
