The Tecra 9000 is the latest in Toshiba’s long-life corporate Tecra laptop series. You won’t see the latest and greatest features (latest video chipset, largest screen, etc.). To do that, you must look at consumer models like the Satellite series....
The Tecra 9000 is so good that I bought a second Tecra 9000 for my oldest son and am looking for a third Tecra 9000 for my younger son.
No frills, solid construction. I frequently use my Tecra 9000 connected to a GPS unit driving off-road in my truck to map orienteering race courses for the Boy Scouts. It takes quite a beating on some trips bouncing around the truck, but NOTHING has gone wrong! Often the computer gets so covered in dust that I must clean off the screen to see the data displayed. By contrast, my wife's IBM ThinkPad T-40 breaks sitting in the house.
In the years that I have owned the Tecra 9000, the Windows 2000 OS has locked up 3-4 times. My wife reports her Thinkpad, with the same OS, locking up weekly (sometimes daily)!!!
