Absolutely Beautiful Machine, even better LCD screen

by Eridani , Aug 28 '02
Pros: The 16" Screen!, fast, good video performance, solid, well designed case
Cons: Sony, loose case bezel, short battery life.
I purchased My Sony GRX500P (same as the Sony GRX550, just loaded for businesses. The only difference that I've found is that it has XP pro instead of XP hope).

Background:

I was looking for a machine to replace my Dell Inspiron...

Fantastic Premium Laptop

by pspope , Apr 14 '02
Pros: Incredible Screen, sturdy construction
Cons: No integrated 802.11 Wireless

The new Sony GRX series laptops truly epitomize the concept of desktop replacement. While my primary motivation for finding a replacement for my Dell Inspiron 8000 was merely to find a laptop with tolerable build quality, I have been rather...

Best laptop screen ever made

by dginsburg , Mar 30 '02
Pros: Incredible screen Appealing case design
Cons: Poor battery life High accessory cost Large footprint Uncomfortable keyboard
The only compelling reason to buy this laptop is the 16" screen. It's UXGA and is the similar to the Enhanced UXGA from Dell and FlexView from IBM. But those are 15 inch screens and this one is 16. I'm used to 1600x1200 on 21" CRT's at home and work but...

Sixteen inch multimedia monster

by jefhatfield Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jun 10 '02
Pros: large screen, 512 MB RAM
Cons: none at this price
Sony VAIO has had some of the best multimedia computers on the PC side for quite some time. When it comes to graphics, many professionals opt for the Apple Titanium Powerbook if they want to be mobile.

Since the Powerbook, there has been no...

Monitor beautiful but unreliable; Keyboard poor quality and unreliable.

by bjbartlett , Oct 15 '03
Pros: Great Monitor (when it works).
Cons: Unreliable monitor/keyboard. Rigid warranty policy. Too heavy. SONY service.
My father and I bought GRX570s in 2002 (my father in March and me in June). We were both excited about owning such marvelous desktop replacement computers. The monitor on the computer is truly incredible. That is really what hooked us. And with 40 gig har ...

Even with the CONS-great machine

by jubead , Dec 16 '02
Pros: 16.1" screen/integrates with other Sony products easily/great machine
Cons: Heavy, accessories costly, large frame, a/c adapter heavy and large
I have had this laptop approximately 6 months. I purchased the product fully loaded. 40GB HD/512Mb memory/CD/DVD ROM/extended warranty/replicator port and WinXP professional with office XP Professional

I purchased online at Sony Style, but...

Could have been a much better laptop!

by rpandhe , May 31 '02
Pros: good screen, 3 USB ports, 40GB HDD, P4 1.6GHz, High Speed DVD-CDRW
Cons: noisy disk, noisy keyboard, memory limited to 512MB, no InfraRed port
I was impressed by the beautiful screen and had to get this laptop. However after using it for the past 2 weeks, I realized that a 16 inch screen is worth less if it cannot be used with other computers.
Hence ideally I would go for an LCD monitor if...

Broke in 12 Hours, Interesting Discovery

by prax_org , Jul 12 '02
Pros: Good Performance, Big Screen
Cons: Pricey, Heavy, Fragile, Battery Life, Short Power Cord.
Going on my good impression of my other Sony products, I thought that the top-end VAIO would be a good laptop to buy... WRONG!! I bought this thing at the local Sony Store for a rather hefty sum of $4299 Canadian, (I thought it was reasonable) After...

Sony Laptop

by procyonb , Jun 27 '03

Desktop computer replacement

by javax , Apr 16 '02
Pros: Wow, the screen.
Cons: Heavy and keyboard layout
The main reason that I bought this computer is it's screen size and resolution which you won't see it on any other notebook computers. It is generally well made computer except it is bit too heavy for a notebook computer.

It comes with 512mb...

Excellent screen with life-like clarity

by amavimissohou , Apr 05 '02
Pros: Excellent screen quality and size
Cons: loud keyboard, sound quality disappointing; processor makes irritatingly loud clicks no volume control button
The laptop worked smoothly straight from the box. There wasn't too much clutter of literature in the box either.
Processor was reasonably fast. Even though the hard drive was trumpeted to be massive,I was stunned to discover that the pre-installed...
