Sony VAIO GR390 PC Notebook

Pros: Gorgeous LCD, great keyboard, CD-RW/DVD combo
Cons: Middling battery time, video card only good - not great

In my opinion, this laptop is the best notebook value out there. The specs are mouthwatering - Mobile PIII, 512MB of RAM, built in CD-RW/DVDROM, ATI 16MB DDR video card, a quality keyboard and (maybe most importantly) a stunning 15.1 inch...

Pros: 3 USB ports, boots quickly, large disk capacity, large screen
Cons: No audio line input. No serial port, somewhat heavy

I replaced my Sony Vaio because of limited memory. Also the earlier Vaio versions had a lot of devices that had to be connected externally. The GR390 has fastly improved video and the DVD / CD R/W is really the only I/O needed these days. The 3 USB ports...

Pros: My wallet is much lighter !
Cons: bad combo drive. I am playing the waiting game.

The customer service at Sony is not service. The $2000.00 35 day old computer will not read CD's.Movies play fine. Circuit City has a 14 day return policy so I'm on my own.
Last night I tried to play music CD's and It will not read them or data CD's...

I was impressed with three things about this laptop. 1. It runs like a computer ought to. 2. Beautiful screen. I use Photoshop and CorelDraw, this is one important reason for getting only a machine that can handle graphics much like my CRT monitor. 3. The key pad is great. I find it much better to type on (touch type) than many others I’ve tried. All in all; I give this one an “A-“. Why not an “A”? ; because it did not come with a DC inverter for my automobile.
