Pros: Easy to Use, Supports THX, 7.1 Channel Output...Everything Else Cons: Price...But It Seems To Still Be Worth It
The Onkyo TX-DS989 is one piece of equipment that I can call 'The Ultimate Piece of Home Theater Systems'. When I purchased my Yamaha RX-V995, that really blew me away, especially with its price. The Onkyo TX-DS989 which I actually was able to try out...
Pros: Clean layout/design, quality build, good sound Cons: Not the best in class
In my search for quality high-end speakers, I've been listening to lots of quality equipment. Last week, when choosing a new center channel (for the curious I picked up a Tannoy Saturn SC8) I went to a great shop in Long Island.
Pros: Crystal clear sound, TONS of I/O, great remote, great features. THX EX Cons: A little expensive
I assume first of all that this will be read by mainly those people who are seriously interested in sound, so I have no fear in using more descriptive terms. First of all, THD of .05%--WOW!!--what does this mean? Crystal clear sounds, and no...
Pros: The 7.1 channels!! Yea Baby! Cons: It weighs a metric ton!
After a lot of searching I found one at YourInsider.com for only $2200. I really like this receiver's sound quality for home theater and music. Everything sounds more open compared with the Pioneer. I was thinking about getting separates and...

I bought this unit a month ago and I have to say it is the best unit I have seen. I do not see spending thousands more on a unit such as Denon when you get just as good if not better sound out of this receiver . The physical appearance is beautiful much better than a Denon or any other over rated receiver.

I bought a unit! Excellent features but needs better remote control unit, must preset radio station first before able to use "seek" on the remote control. The motorized door panel does not make any sense at all! Where's those huge heatsink and heavy armor built like Denon 5800 & Pioneer VSX-AX10. Need two cooling fans(seriously!). I cannot believe Onkyo packed so much excellent features in a cheap quality tincan chassis, and call it their flagship model too! For a price tag over two grand I would expect to see a built as nice as the classis M-508 Grand Integra Power Amp or better yet like it's Denon or Pioneer flagship counterparts. It's still can be the best receiver every built if the company fulfill it's claim that it is an over engineered. For now that claim doesn't show. It need a major redesign and facelift, I'll wait so i can trade in my 989 to a new one! Sorry I'm just being honest, I own a M-508 amp. That's a quality I expect from Onkyo espacially for flagship model.
