Disappointment Comes In Big Packages

by noangels Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 14 '06
Pros: Great features, viewfinder, high zoom, 6 megapixels
Cons: Features don't work as they are supposed to, blurry images
The Kodak Easyshare Z612 was released within the last week, bringing with it a high 12x zoom and image stabilization (IS) technology. This camera can be summarized with one word: disappointment. Brand Kodak has long been known ...

Don't Let the Salesman Talk You Into This One!

by shadesofgray5 , Oct 31 '06
Pros: This camera can produce some nice pictures.
Cons: Flash quit working after 4 months of use.
I went to the store to get a new digital camera and wasn't going to spend much but I messed up and let the salesman talk me into this one. On the surface, this looks to be a great all around camera. It has a lot of great features if you want to get ...

Pros: Quick, Portable, User Friendly, Inexpesnive
Cons: Doesn't work well at night or in lower lighting.
Like everyone, this item has its pros and cons. We have had this camera for a few months. We bought the memory card to go in it. It now holds up to 1000 pictures. It's quick when you want to take several pictures. It also has the video feature, ...

Superb!

by gerrydee , Jan 11 '07
Pros: Variogon Shneider lens,12x zoom with IS, movies with sound and telephoto @ 30 fps
Cons: None noted
I was getting a camera for Christmas so I did a lot of research before buying. At every review site I went to, this Kodak Z612 was getting from 8 to 10 stars out of ten consistently. I narrowed my choices to three cameras, the Canon A530, the Panasonic ...

Easy to use, but has a few quirks

by ssmithson , Dec 22 '07
Pros: Great pictures, long battery life
Cons: Hard to use picture software
My husband bought this camera the day our daughter was born. He didn't do a lot of research but we have been pretty happy with it so far. Using the zoom feature, he was able to take fantastically clear pictures of our baby in the nursery, 20 feet away ...

Great Camera for the price!

by stazy , Feb 01 '08
Pros: Price, screen size, ease of software
Cons: Extended zoom with image stabilization is still too blurry
I have had this camera for over a year and have taken over 1000 pictures with it. I just like to take pictures of family and trips. The big screen on the back makes for easy viewing. I went with kodak after researching several cameras for several ...

by juliejasd , Aug 07 '07
Pros: Image stabilization, 12X OPTICAL zoom, great pictures, great video, fun camera, durable, easy to use
Cons: Software doesn't allow Disable in Task bar - other than that, nothing.
I researched MANY cameras before I purchased this one. I've had this camera for over a year and everything still works like new. Many different functions, fun to use, I had a great time taking pictures of fireworks and was amazed at how great they ...

Overall great camera

by tmkinney , Apr 18 '08
Pros: 2.5" LCD screen, 12x Optical Zoom, Li-Ion Batteries, Speed Above Average
Cons: Size - not compact enough Image Stabilization doesn't work great
The Kodak Z612 with 12x Optical Zoom and Image Stabilization is a great camera for beginners or novices. Takes outstanding pictures, battery life is excellent, my only complaint is the size of the camera. I bought this camera for the 12x optical zoom, ...

Great Camera
by herbiek6 ,Jun 10 '07
Pros: easy to use, great pictures
Cons: None so far
Bought the Camera about 2 month ago after looking around and researching different others. I am really happy with it, the Zoom works fantastic, pictures are crystal clear, the video mode works like a charm, it is very easy to switch between video and picture mode. Shutter lag is minimal. I have no regrets at all buying it. I paid about Can $ 250 for the Camera and the 1 GB chip for $25 at Wal-mart. With that chip it holds just under 1000 pictures at the highest setting, or one hour of Video.

Premium inexpensive zoom camera
by savencashagain ,Jan 28 '07
Pros: Great camera, great price, great software included.
Cons: None
I researched cameras for over a month because I needed one with a big optical zoom and video record capability. I initially narrowed the list down to cameras with an optical zoom of 8x's or greater, but a price below $500, since I was on a budget. After reading over 150 reviews on various cameras I decided to purchase the Kodak Easyshare Z612. I couldn't be happier with my decision. The Z612 has an impressive .03 shutter lag which allows me to take action shots with minimal delay. It also allows me to switch back and forth between still and video shots, with just a click of the button. Additionally, I can zoom in or out while recording, which is really nice during soccer or volleyball games. The camera does have built in memory, but I decided to also purchase a 2GB card which increased my picture taking capability to over 1000 pictures or 1 hour of video. I found the camera on line at Buydig.com for only $250.00
and the 2GB card at Walmart.com for only $39.00
Bottom line: This is a great camera for the everyday photog that just wants to take some family snapshots.

broke after 3 months!
by luckymarge ,Jan 27 '07
Pros: does take nice pictures
Cons: on/off button doesn't work after 3 months of moderate use.
I wish I had read the first review on this camera. I never would have bought it. I don't love the quality of my zoom shots and I am very upset that the on/off button does not work after owning this camera for only 3 months!! I had to pay to have it shipped back! The least they could do is pay for the shipping. My camera is brand new!
I will never buy a Kodak again. I miss my Minolta!

Kodak EasyShare Z612 Digital Camera
by dillis ,Mar 28 '07
Pros: 12x Zoom Optical Image Stabilizer 2.5 LCD Perfect Touch Tech.
Cons: NONE...............
It took me about a month to decide which camera to get, so many cameras & features. But I finally chose the Z612. I also bought the G600 printer with it. The camera really takes very good pics and the optical image stabilizer really helps keep it steady while zooming. And the printer is awesome, love it. 29 cents a copy, hard to beat that. In the review mode, it has a feature called Perfect Touch Tech. The camera sets the pic at the best quality. (white balance, color, and so on.) The camera is very easy to setup and take pics with. Do check around for the best price..as of 3-28-07 Office Depot has it for $199.00 Cheapest I found...The Z612 uses a farely new type of battery, rechargeable Li-lon. Kodak has it on there website for about $ 45.00. But I can't find it at any local stores, you can buy a non rechargeable CRV3 I have seen those around...Not gonna bore you with all the specs..this is a great camera with lots of features you may never use, cause the auto features are that good.

Good camera . . . but issue with video . . .
by sgsmile ,Apr 25 '08
Pros: Great features for the price; excellent picture quality; great zoom range.
Cons: See descriptions above.
I have had this camera for about a year and a half, and consider it a good camera for the price. However, there are a couple of things that annoy me about it. The first one (relatively minor) is the clumsiness of the zoom. It is very imprecise - I often find myself going back and forth trying to find the right magnification - the zoom tend to overshoot the position I want.

The second annoyance is more significant. When recording video, when I zoom, the auto focus takes a long time to keep up with the magnification. While it is focusing, though, the sound gets quite low and muffled (I suspect this is due to the sound of the zoom being detected by the microphone, resulting in the sound gain control to reduce the recording volume, but I'm not sure). I am considering upgrading to the Z812 - due mostly to the ability to record 720P high definition video - but will not do it unless I'm sure what appears to be a design flaw is corrected.

Very nice camera
by twilk53 ,Mar 15 '07
Pros: 12x zoom. Image stabilization. Pop-up flash. Low shutter lag. Large view screen.
Cons: Incomplete manual (go on-line for full manual). Would like a remote for the shutter.
This is an excellent camera for those that just want to push a button and get good shots or a very good one for somebody wanting more control over the settings. It is fairly light weighted, which could be a plus or minus depending on personal preferences. It is surprisingly compact for a camera with a 12x zoom. The image stabilization works as advertised and there is very little shutter lag. Like most digital cameras, there are more features and setting adjustments than the average picture taker will ever need or use, but that's better than not enough. To my untrained eyes, the photos look great, even those taken in low light. Anyone that doesn't like the quality of this camera or its pictures should be shopping for a digital SLR instead of a camera in this price range.

WOW!! Easy to use and BEAUTIFUL pics!!
by fancy92 ,Jun 07 '06
Pros: User friendly and explains everything in the camera. Size and weight of camera are good.
Cons: I would opt for the scan disk II memory card for saving pics faster.
I recently got my first pictures developed from my z612 and have had so many compliments on the quality of them. The lady who developed them couldn't believe the crisp, clear, gorgeous pics we had of our vacation! We took them of action, landscape, beach, clouds and they are all crisp and clear! The 12x zoom is wonderful too! I love the ability to crop and save in the camera, it made great pics that way. All the pictures are bright and the colors are vivid! We have taken approximately 400 pictures and had 200 of them developed and there isn't one con that we can find!
