I am very pleased with this stereo. The bass is better at low volumes than the more powerful/more expensive JVC models. I know this because I actually compared them at the stores. The surround sound modes are very real and not just extra gimmicks. Comparable models from other leading manufacturers do not have the sound quality of this JVC; it not only has good bass but an overall excellent full-range of sound. I am not partial to JVC and I would have bought any other brand if I thought it sounded better. My only complaint, a small one, is that it goes into "demo" mode any time the power is interupted, but the flashing lights and billboard effects can be stopped with just the touch of a button.
