Big, Flat. Nice!

by mstrknowitall , May 18 '03
Pros: No glare, Flat screen, Sharp!
Cons: Tiny lines in screen, difficult to adjust position
While I was in the market for a new PC, I stumbled upon Dell's offer for a 'free 19" flat screen monitor', and decided to give it a go. Since I am a part-time graphic designer, I could always use the extra desktop room.

The first thing that I...

Trinitron Display follow-up review
by omega010 ,Mar 20 '04
Pros: In this price point, everything
Cons: None for the price
In regards to the last reviewer....

Most graphics people would have picked up right away that the two horizontal dividing lines on-screen are a hallmark of Trinitron technology. They're there for alignment purposes within the screen. This isn't necessarily a con, as they're already very very faint.

You could go with LCD technology for a line-less image and smaller footprint, but you'd also be missing out on great color accuracy. LCD technology, unless you're spending at least a G-note, will not beat a calibrated Trinitron screen. Cheap LCD's oversaturate deep colors and tend to wash out lighter ones. As a designer, I would recommend to anyone in the graphics field to stick with they're Trinitron screen, as least until the quality/price point improves on LCD's.

This monitor is not just expensive for the size of it, but because it offers a DVI (Digital Video Interface) connection. Use this with most of the new video cards and it should help to clean up the geometry issues of your screen. Text and icons should also be somewhat sharper. Apple has a LCD about this screen size with a DVI connector. It runs for about double the price.
