Ever been lost while driving? I mean really, really lost - thinking that you are going south only to find that you are headed north, believing that you are getting closer to your destination when you are actually putting on miles in the opposite...
Pros: Really nice color display; very easy to use Cons: Poor at capturing satellites; needs expensive software and data cards
Most men hate asking for directions. We fell more comfortable driving around in circles for an hour, rather then stopping and asking for directions. I don't know why we do this, I just know we do. It is probably genetic, or linked to testosterone.

Pros: Very readable display, lots of maps available, great accuracy Cons: Poor GPS reception in urban areas, no automatic route planning
I recently took a Garmin StreetPilot ColorMap with me on two trips of about 200 km each (from Ottawa to Montreal, and from Ottawa to Kingston). Both are along major highways. Along the way, I was impressed at the unit's ability to accurately position...
Pros: Great details with MetroGuide, easy lock on satellites, easy to mount on vehicle Cons: Battery life, refresh time, price
Someday, I'll have to stop buying toys for my Xterra :)
The Garmin Streetpilot Colormap is designed for use in automobiles, not for hiking, perhaps for boating or flying, but it excels as a car navigation device.
Pros: Good solid GPS Cons: Overpriced memory, poor maps in areas, large memory chips dont work with no warning, support
I wont cover all the bases on this as others have filled in the basic details, just a few cautions. I purchased a streepilot colormap in 2000 after getting tired of constantly being lost in the new area I'd moved to. The bottom line is the maps in my ...
Pros: great lighting, many useful functions Cons: price
Being a directionally challenged person by nature, I always knew I needed some kind of device to keep me on track. On a recent trip to New York with a business associate, I found it! She has a Garmin StreetPilot GPS in her car. What a toy that was ...
Pros: Color display, Clean and concise presentation. Cons: relatively small screen and controls on the GPS Unit
I received the Street Pilot this past Christmas and was thrilled with the performance. However using the GPS unit was a slow patient procedure since there was no keyboard device associated with it.
Pros: Bright large display, street level mapping Cons: slow refresh, to large for hiking
The StreetPilot is a GPS receiver with 12 channels. Since it picks up the public GPS signal (broadcast from government satellites) the use of this device is free after the cost of purchase. It cannot function indoors and has trouble in canyons. GPS is...
Well i know your thinking 890 bucks is way to much to give for a gadget like this. But my advice to you is go to your local electronics store and try this baby out.You will be shocked as to how good this is.The Color gives it some sort of realism.I...
When I won this unit in a drawing, I was ecstatic. Already owning two GPS receivers, I can't say I exactly needed it, but I thought I was getting a top-of-the-line Garmin GPS receiver. What I learned is that it is a basic-featured unit with a nice color...
Pros: Wonderful voice directions, great accuracy. Cons: No DVD, Small color screen.
This was my first GPS and I didn't realize how good it was until I bought the brand new kenwood DV3100 GPS thinking I'd made a huge jump up... What I learned was that my old Street Pilot III color GPS while smaller had some important advantages... First the Streetpilot gives unusually detailed verbal instructions, clearly more precise that the $2,800 Kenwood system. The engineers must have been making up for the small screen with superior auditory guidance. Also, the StreetPilot III identifies streets as I cross then while the Kenwood system only shows about 1 in 5 of the peripheral street names on the map... Finally the StreetPilot once it saw the satellites would stay on the road while the New kenwood system wanders for 5 seconds after many Of my turns... The perfect system is yet to come but would combine the superior language descriptions and accuracy of the StreetPilot with the DVD of the Kenwood... Its in the future.
I've had it for 3 years and it still amazes me. New streets not on any map...including the GPS software? No problem, turn on the track log and the unit will "draw in the streets as you drive. And, it's great for back tracking. I think it's also known as breadcrumbs. Anyway, it is very accurate, idiot proof and, well, fun.
Great product overall.
Took me less... by big_d_dt3000 ,May 03 '02
Great product overall.
Took me less then 10 mins to figure out how to use.
Absolutly excellent documentation.
This unit is very accurate, in fact I was surprized at how accurate it was.
I would definetly recommend this one.
