Pros: Readable display; Dim Settings Cons: Power Cord; Memory?; Sensitivity!??; Price
Escort, aka Cincinnati Microwave, has been producing a wireless Detector for sometime. The first wireless too was a called the Solo. The unit used a 9 Volt battery and a Security Key to operate. The Original Solo Detected only X and K band, and was good...
Pros: Light weight, Convienient, good display, easy to understand features/buttons Cons: Range, Range, Range! Alerted w/in close eyesight of police radar units- too late!!
I purchased this detector because I'm in and out of different cars and wanted something I could use on my motorcycle with out having to hard wire it in. It's battery operation is very convienient and it has the ability to be powered by hardwire or...
Pros: Um...no umbilical cord; reliability; stealthiness Cons: Visor-clip is extra; time to set up preferences; lacks anti-theft features; LIDAR liability
I've been one of several loyal Escort customers in my family, dating back to Cincinnati Microwave's glory days...they've earned my respect for the quality & performance of their radar detectors. The previous one I owned was the first Solo cordless unit ...
The Escort Solo is Escort's older model, not the new extremely expensive Escort Solo S2. The Solos came out with a variety of models. They were known for providing decent X-Band coverage, but time eventually catches up... The Escort Solo is ...
Pros: Compactness and cordless operation. Cons: Weak Ka Band performance, owner must keep spare batteries on hand.
(NOTE: This is a continuation of radar detector opinions I have already written. Rather than have everyone grow tired of watching me repeat myself in each opinion, please read my opinions on the Bel 980 and the Cobra ESD-6500. I’m not trying to drive...
Pros: Cordless, Sensitive, Cons: Expensive, Sensitive, No Stealth
This, basically, is a Radar Dectector like any other quality detector. Comes with all the bells and whistles (pun intended). Scans all bands (X, K, Ka) and Laser. Its programmable as all are, and you can set it up to your liking (brightness and...
Pros: The Escort Solo is cordless and allows some programmability (volume level, brightness, etc.) Cons: High battery consumption; Very poor durability; Highly overpriced.
ESCORT markets this unit for having the following key features that set it apart from other detector ...
Pros: It's cordless Cons: Cheaply built, you'll read the cop's badge number before it detects his radar
I wrote to Escort and tried to contact them several times regarding the unacceptably poor performance of their Solo radar detector but to no avail. This was one letter:
Pros: Cordless, very user programmable & easy to use, virtually no false signals. Good X/K/Laser reception. Cons: Marginal Ka reception without the optional cord, which makes it acceptable.
The Solo 5110 cordless radar detector has been in both my cars for about 6 months now. You can program this thing to suit your tastes in the areas of volume, automute, 4 brightness settings, 5 radar sensitivity settings, start-up mode, different sounds,...
Pros: Size, No cord needed, Easy to use Cons: Need to purchase batteries
This radar detector is one of the best investments I have ever made. I decided to buy one since I usually like to live in the fast lane. With the push of a button, you are in business.
It has plenty of great features. It detects K-, Ka-,...

Pros: it works well for me Cons: none i can think of.
This is a good unit. It took me a little while to get used to the different tones or pitches the alerts use for the various bands, but its very helpful. I drive in a familiar area, where the false alarms are common to me and I know when to ignore alerts and when not to. I will tell you, I have been saved many many times with this little machine.
As far as the unit itself, it has volume control and the display can be dimmed so as not to be so obvious in the dark. It has auto mode or can set it to highway or in town. I just use auto.
I'm sure this has paid for itself tenfold - with all my savings on tickets! (Now if i could just stop getting tickets for not stopping all the way...:-)
Pros: convenient, easy controls, looks good Cons: lousy range, performs like detectors half the cost
This is not a good detector, a surprise considering it is an Escort. They screwed up this time, which is why they came out with the Solo 2 so quickly following. Very poor range, first alert within eyesight of the cop. Got two tickets with this, one on a busy interstate with cruiser parked on the shoulder, other with cruiser coming in opposite direction in broad daylight. I started slowing down before the detector alerted!
Pros: no wires, can be mounted more conviently Cons: shorter range than other escorts
I got the this detector. It's nice not to have a cord hanging in the way, pulling it off the windshield. But, it's range is definately less than the other escort detectors.
On the positive side, I haven't noticed a problem with battery life.
