Pros: Non-drowsy, works quickly Cons: lasts from 10-12 hours, expensive
Several weeks ago Claritin® was made available for the buying public without the hassle of needing a prescription. The original prescription strength was now sold over the counter so when I came upon a display with coupons to boot I decided to...
Pros: 24 hour relief, non drowsy formula, available over the counter, can find coupons Cons: more expensive than most OTC medications, not covered by insurance
Having a child with Allergies was a new experience for me, and I must say not a happy one for myself or a little boy who has learned to live with a "snotty nose", and sore irritated throat for most of his 12 years. We had him tested at around the age ...
Pros: 24-hour relief, few if any side-effects, non-drowsy Cons: Doesn't work for everyone
Looking for a way to battle allergies? Claritin offers relief from allergies for 24 hours at a clip with very few side effects Claritin offers 24-hour non-drowsy relief for people who suffer from allergies. It does this with Loratadine (an ...
Pros: Non-drowsy formula. Pill is small. Cons: More expensive to purchase for me over the counter instead of through insurance.
Preamble
December 10, 2002. It's a day I'll never forget. I had just run out of my prescription for Claritin and was unable to get a refill for it. Why? Because that very day, it was scheduled to go on the shelves for over the...
Pros: Stops my allergy symptoms quickly without side effects Cons: Expensive, blister pack
This seems to be a miserable year for seasonal allergies for both my husband and I. To try and dry up our runny noses my husband purchased a box of Claritin. The Basics There are several different kinds of Claritin, this version contains 10 mg ...
Pros: Over the Counter, Non drowsy Cons: Some prescriptions are more effective.
When Claritin went from prescription to over the counter in 2002, it was an answer to many prayers. People with allergies to trees, grasses, and weeds suffer terribly. I know from first hand experience, because I've had allergies to these items all of my ...
Pros: Good for light allergies or seasonal relief. Cons: Expensive, not good for severe allergies.
For the past four years of living in Florida, I've been called the "Sneeze Factory" and often have, what I affectionally term, "sneizures" which consist of 20 - 30 sneezes in a row, loud enough to blow the eardrums of small children and even sensitive...
Pros: Price and availability. Cons: It didn't seem to work for me.
My reaction to springtime pollen can vary, from some sniffles and sneezes to outright incapacitation and mild asthma. So this spring, when it seemed like I was going to be having a harsher time of it, I trekked to the local pharmacy to go for the...
Pros: Works like nothing else, no side effects, easy to take Cons: Mega-bucks.
For most of my life, I have suffered severe allergies. I was tested for allergens, and was found to be at least somewhat allergic to 74 out of 75 of the allergens tested. When I was tested for the grasses, my arm swelled up so bad that it ruined the...
Claritin causes drowsiness, despite claims that it doesn't by erineng ,Mar 24 '04
Pros: some allergy relief Cons: drowsiness and sluggishness
I was given over the counter Claritin by my pharmacy, as my health plan had discontinued offering Allegra (which worked very well for me for years). After taking Claritin on numerous occasions, I am convinced that it causes drowsiness and a general spacey feeling, despite what the box says. I have not taken more than the recommended dose. The product offers partial relief from my hay fever, but the benefits do not outweigh the negative effects. I feel unable to concentrate while taking the medication and need frequent naps. Allegra never caused this drowsy feeling. Claritin has not proved a comparable replacement for me.
Pros: Last longer than others and doesn't make you sleepy Cons: Don't take it just before you go to bed
It works really good for about 10 hours then it is gone. Those ten hours are nice though. I haven't noticed any side effects which is nice. The allergy pills that work the best though knock me out for the day. Don't take them just before bed or you may be up for a little while. I still like them for what they do.
Pros: Nothing...didn't work for me at all. Cons: Expensive waste of money
I have tried Claritin and Claritin D for my severe allergies. It does not work for me, I felt nothing, it was a waste of money. My doctor told me to wait awhile and see if the medicine kicks in after a day, but it never did, even after I took another dose 24 hours later. The box says one pill every 24 hours, maybe they should change it to two pills every 24 hours, because the one pill felt like nothing at all. The best medicine for me seems to be Tylenol Allergy and Benadryl...I might as well take candy instead of Claritin, they both have the same effect on my allergy symptoms.
Pros: There aren't any Cons: The cost of purchasing which was a waste of money.
After many years of taking Sudafed, I decided to try a prescription allergy medication. I was given Allegra and have used it for two years with excellent results; until my health coverage recently dropped it. I have just tried Claritin. I would have been better off taking nothing at all or switching back to Sudafed. My symptoms did not subside, in fact I think they increased. I did not get any sleep last night. I really hope Allegra becomes OTC very soon. If you suffer from allergies and your health care covers the cost of Allegra - stock up now!
Claritin does not work for me by jeberhardt ,Jul 10 '07
Pros: no sleepiness while taking it Cons: does not work
My HMO mailed a letter to me a couple years ago stating their doctors would no longer be prescribing Allegra(they had previously stopped prescribing Seldane), and recommended to all their Allegra patients to start taking Claritin, available at any pharmacy. Well, I've been taking Claritin for a couple years, now, and I'm tired of it not working. My sinuses are stopped-up on one side and uncontrollably dripping on the other.. Even taking the '24' hour Claritin 2 and 3 times a day does not help me...I'm contacting my HMO doctor to DEMAND some other prescription level allergy medication. I have experience in the past with prescription medicines that have been changed into over the counter medicines; they were not effective. It is my opinion that Claritin is another such medicine. I am disappointed about it and now I have to go through further expense and effort to obtain a medicine that WORKS.
The only thing for my winter itchy skin by bjay22 ,Feb 26 '04
Pros: Stops winter itch caused by dry skin. Does not cause drowsiness. Cons: If taken daily, can be very expensive.
I have 3 kids with allergies and one was prescribed Claritin when it was in prescription form only. When reading the information inside the package I read that it can sometimes help with skin rashes. I have been suffering every fall/winter for about 10 years, each year the itching was worse. It would start with my legs, then my arms. The itching was maddening, until I started to scratch until I bled. Hives would appear and everywhere I scratched, would redden and swell. I especially suffered at night when trying to sleep. I tried everything, but with 3 school age kids, could not use anything that would make me tired. That day, I took l Claritin and the itching stopped. I mean completely. I now have been rash-free for over a year and I can't tell you how wonderful it is. For me there are no drowsy or dangerous side effect. Unless you've suffered with itchy skin, you cannot imagine how bad it can be.
