Pros: Compact size, impressive battery life, quality feel, exciting sound Cons: no illumination on player LCD, OpenMG software useless and unreliable
The Sony MZ-N1 is the flagship model of its new "Net MD" range of portable MD players, merging the traditional benefits of MiniDisc with the portability and ease of use of Web-sourced MP3 files. NetMD is also Sony's latest attempt to kickstart flagging...
Pros: Small, light, easily put into pocket, and great sound. Cons: Can't download from MD to CD.
I bought this mini-disc for one main purpose, which was to download live recordings onto a CD. Background Since moving into a new Church I have been involved in the recording of the services and live music concerts. The equipment put into the ...
Pros: Nice LCD display, high-speed download interface with PCs, etc. Cons: complex menu settings, lack of dedicated buttons, buttons too close together, etc.
If you're shopping for an MD unit, and you're not sure what name to go with (particularly, Sharp and Sony, as they seem to be the two most popular), the Sony MZ-N1 and Sharp IM-MT880 are direct "rival" units. The Sharp MT880 has the USB jack on the...
I have owned minidisc players since 1995, and I have to say that I'm a huge fan. I've never been interested in MP3 players because the ones that are small enough to interest me generally can't store enough music and the ones that can store substantial...
Pros: Top of the line model, NetMD, MDLP, DSP Type-R, Extended Battery life Cons: Poor Earphones, OpenMG limited, Cannot high speed upload to PC only Download.
I purchased the Sony MZ-N1 Minidisc Player/Recorder as a replacement for my Sony MZ-R900. I bought it from an internet retailer before it came out for North America. At first glance, the unit is made out of magnesium-alloy. It is available in 2 colors,...
Pros: Cool Factor. Size. Battery life. Sound Quality. Recording capabilities. Cons: No upload to computer. Software stinks.
I bought the MZ-N1 about 3 weeks ago, and have run it through its paces quite a bit. The size is impressive, and it looks great. It comes with a nice remote that has a lot of functions for use during playback, but you can't access any recording functions...
I bought a MZ-N1 in the summer of 2002 and I loved it. It was compact, light, played music perfectly, and had the easy to use remote to switch between songs, put on repeat, shuffle, etc. The main MD has a 3 line LCD that has a blue back light, very ...
Pros: good looking and made by SONY Cons: few problems till now
SONY MZ ¨C N1 is the best high-speed net MD Walkman player / recorder among all the other homogeneous products until now. It can record MP3s or CDs at up to 32x speed, which supplied with a USB cradle for charging and Easy PC connection. Featuring a...
Pros: Small, light, awesome quality(sound and build) easy to use, mp3 compatible Cons: the stupid open MG software, no upload to the pc
I bought the Sony MZ-N1 (US Version) 2 months ago and since then I am listening to music all day. It so easy to just throw it in your pocket and go! I 've used a lot of cd players and mp3 players, but this is the first minidisk player i have and use....
Pros: Good values, slim body, light weight, never skip (even when I'm running) Cons: not up to top standard quality control and construction
I got the Sony N1 for about two weeks, it work fine, but the construction is questionable. The top body cover got pressed a mark. Line in/out plug hole not aligned correctly with the casing. Just fell that Sony's high quality is gone. Watch carefully and...
Pros: Wonderful sound quality
long battery life
fast check in
easy to rename Cons: Poor design for battery box
Few times for download
copyright troubles
I bought it in Beijing China in 2002. I was so lucky that the samples i bought was produced in Japan.Because of the wonderful reputation and quality i have known about, though it cost me over $300 ( over 2500 Chinese Yen), i bought it with no doubt.

Pros: convenient Cons: It has buggy restrictive software
The software will refuse to recognise some tracks on a CD ('no codec' - help file gives no clues either) Some CDs or MP3's are rejected entirely. Simply speaking, it has poor usability, very poor documentation, help software or knowledgeable telephone...

It has good sound quality and the remote is really handy.
The OpenMG sucks and it doesn't let me do anything right
so I use the Net MD simple burner and I have no problems.
I've just purchased the MZ-N1... by matt_c._dt3000 ,Feb 09 '03
I've just purchased the MZ-N1 after buying my daughter the cheaper Sony MZ-N505. Is the cost between the two units justified?? Probably not. The MZ-N1 has a few extras such as the remote control, the docking cradle (some may say that the cradle is a detriment - you can't plug a USB cord directly into the player - you must use the cradle), a carrying pouch and an optical connector. Overall I found the sound quality to be the same between the two units - OUTSTANDING!! My major quibble, as with most of the other reviewers here, is the awful OpenMG Jukebox software. It is horribly unstable and extremely awkward to use. The USB connection is also quite slow for my tastes. Compared to the Mac I-Pod's Fire-Wire it's positively neanderthal-like in it's speed and user un-friendliness. If Sony re-writes the software, paying greater attention to ease of use rather than ensuring stringent copyright protection then they'll truly have a Grade A, Blue Ribbon winner here.
