Pros: Nice, large bright screen. All the cables you could need included. Cheap. Great features! Cons: Heavy. Doesn't unfold flat when battery is connected. RCA jacks must connect to TV!
I spent a lot of time doing research trying to find just the right portable DVD player to waste my money on. This is the one I picked. It's hard to compare them because they each have so many pros and cons between them. Most of them are little things -...
Pros: Works better with a television set than most other portable dvd players Cons: pales in comparrison to the panasonic dvd L75, price is nearly the same
This is more of a comparison between the Panasonic DVDL75 ($730ish) and the Audiovox DV1680 ($500ish).
The Search
On my search to purchase a portable DVD player, I decided to go to fry's electronics and buy a couple to test them...
I purchased the DV1680 for my significant other to take with her to her kid's extracurricular activities. I gave it a quick one-over before giving it up though :)
First off, every website and review mentions that it's a "slim" design. Even...
I just bought this item after having looked at the Apex and Mintek units also. I was trying to keep the price down. The Mintek at Best Buy had noticeable horizontal "pixel" lines, and the picture lacked color. It appeared somewhat washed out. The Apex at...
Pros: size & weight, plays everything, price, everything that came with it. Cons: wish it came with a case.
I saw the Portable DVD's at Bestbuy & fell in love with the idea. (Guys buy stuff they want not what they need.) I started my research to get the best bang for the dollar. after everything was researched, I found this gem of a unit at Targets for $470....
Pros: price, easy hook up to tv, battery life Cons: no case
I have had zero problems with this dvd player. It has made several plane and restaurant trips. The battery life is more than acceptable. So far, it has definitely been worth the money.
My wife and I frequently use it in our suvs. It...
Pros: Unfortunately,Best portable DVD player period at this time. Cons: Doesn't play all DVD discs
The Audiovox dv1680 is a good player, but it still doesn't cut it. If you're interested in a screen larger than this one, you might as well go for a 10" Sony Vaio laptop and get some computing power as well. This screen is just as wide as a DVD, no...
Pros: Slim and non skid base. Comes with all cables, bells, whistles. Great quality. Cons: Wish it came with a case.
I absolutely love this portable DVD player! It is very slim and sleek. Pretty light without the battery. Battery lasts up to 3 hours in use. Battery charges very quickly. Picture quality is fantastic!! We decided to purchase this for travel use in...

I purchased the Audiovox dvd player VOXDV1680 on October 29/02. From the time I got the product it periodically froze up on a number of discs. I have used the device probably 2 - 3 dozen times and now it won't load anything. After I purchased this I read a number of disturbing on-line reviews of this product. It seems I am experiencing the same dissatisfaction that these other people have faced. What am I to do to remedy this. You pay $400.00 and you expect a shelf life greater than 5 months. If there's a problem with this model can an upgrade to a non-problematic model be considered? I am just not happy with the performance of this machine. To be blunt, it (blanks). I shouldn't have to fight to have discs not freeze. Now they won't even load!
I've had audiovox cell phones, electronic equipment in the past and have had nothing but great satisfaction. This is disappointing. I'm still waiting tohear from Audiovox on how to remedy this.

This is a fantastic little device! With the 6.8 inch screen, the picture is fantastic. With a pair of noise cancelling headphones, I found the sound to be amazing. Without those headphones, you'll hear a fair amount of outside noise. Certainly do not fault the DVD player for that. Weight is an issue only when walking and viewing - don't expect to be doing much of that! I was thrilled to find that the device came with all the necessary accessories - battery pack, charger, car kit, etc. Very good buy!

Overall an excellent value in terms of features for the money. Large screen with good quality picture that is viewable from a fairly wide angle, excellent for multiple back seat kids watching. A little on the heavy side especially with the battery attached, but this isn't really a significant issue unless you plan to backpack with your DVD player. Picture occasionally freezes while reading the disc, but only on some discs. I plan to contact customer service to see if this is a design issue or a potential defect. Suggest taking a DVD with you to preview performance.
The volume from the built-in speakers is excellent, but the volume using headphones is a little weak. When using the headphones my daughter keeps complaining the car radio is too loud for her to hear well.
Still, an excellent value at less than $400 from some suppliers.
