Pros: Loud, clean, lots of wiring/amp options, great price, great $/performance ratio. Cons: I can't think of any, these are my #1 pick for subs right now.
This review is for the 12w3v2, which is just the newer model of the standard 12w3. The 12w3v2 is a dual voice coil sub that comes with dual 2 ohm coils or dual 4 ohms. Depending on which one you have and how you wire them, you can get a 1,2,4, or 8 ohm ...
Pros: Clean sound, good bass response Cons: Tinsel leads have a tendency to come off if you're running too much power (oops!)
Having bought my 12w3 second hand from a friend last August, I have come to the conclusion that I made a very wise decision. Currently my subwoofer is powered by an Alpine MRV-T757, which is factory (severely UNDER) rated at 750 watts on a single channel...
Pros: Small enclosure, hard clean hitting bass, great power handling. Cons: none
Hello and thank you for taking the time to read what I think about these wonderful subs. I purchased 2 12" w3's about three years ago when they first came out and to this day they still play and hit as hard or harder than they ever had and I play these...
Pros: Extreme SPL, Excellent power handling, Very clear sound, did I mention BOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM??? Cons: None
I purchased my 12w3d4 recently after an unfortunate shredding of my previous subwoofer. I have been a car audio enthusiast for quite some time and have had all the major brands in one car or another, yet I always seem to find myself coming back to JL for...
After about a month of researching subwoofers, i finally decided to go with the JL audio 12W3, I choose JL audio because they have low wattage products that "kick" harder than anyone else. I ordered two of these used off of E-bay for i think $178.00 and ...
Pros: very loud, can handle power, and works in a small box Cons: NONE
I purchased a JL 12w3 about 6 months ago, and in that time I have never had a problem.
I currently am running a Dual 6 Ohm Voice coil version (running at 12 ohm). The recommended power says 250w rms, but Im using about 300w rms at 12 ohm and it...
Great Sound. Great quality so far, by kwalker87 ,Oct 03 '05
Pros: Great sound, decent price, good quality. Cons: None so far.
I researched as much as i could before spending big money on a stereo for my car. I have been 100% happy with my choices so far. I have a 12" W3 in a sealed 1 Cubic foot box and I never abuse it. (never turn it to max volume or bass boost). It makes the tightest and cleanest bass I have heard to date. It makes enough bass to hurt your head. If you aren't looking to win Bass competitions but enjoy every bit of sound quality from all of your music from rap to techno, to rock, this is a great sub.
I've owned a pair of 12W3D2's since they came out, and have used them in sealed enclosures, ported and even a ported isobaric configuration. In all instances, these woofers excelled. After purchasing a Hyundai Santa Fe, it was time to go with a smaller, more "amp friendly" sub. After trying 8", 10" and 12" sealed, I decided 12" sealed was the way to go. I brought in some Xtant and MTX subs, as well as various sized enclosures ranging from 1.05 to 2.0 cubic feet. As nice as the MTX 5512-44 and 7512-44 are, the 12W3D2 was the best of the lot. Lots of punch, even in the 1.05 enclosure. I really can't find a fault with these woofers, unless you want to say that their stamped baskets and foam surrounds aren't as attractive as many other glitzy subs on the market; I'd say JL Audio passed on the bling and went with the sound quality. Makes me wonder how good a 12W6 might be....
Pros: Hit hard and deep everytime Cons: BAD construction of the sub.
I've owned both the 12" JLW3d2 and JLW3d4. I love the way these subs hit and sounded. Hit almost everynote, everytime. However, my first sub blew after a little less than 2 years of use. One of the electrodes that goes from the terminal to the cone ripped apart. The same exact thing happened to the next W3 I owned about a year down the road. I really like these subs, but I will not pay $150 for another one, due to bad construction.

These subs will handle up to 500w RMS if using clean signal. They hit exreeeeem lows even at low amperage power. They are the pefect street sub. Very flexable, but sounds better in a sealed box at 1.25 cubic feet. They are not quite competition but not street trash. They will rock you!
The 12W3 offers a great balance between reasonable enclosure volume and massive output capabilities. Very long excursion capability and highly linear ...More at eBay
