***Update May 2006****
Yes, after 5 YEARS OF USE, I still love the Emjoy Gold Caress. But about a year ago, the rechargable battery pretty much conked out. It just didn't want to recharge much anymore -- maybe I get 10 minutes of power from the battery.
But that is not a problem, as you can just plug it in and use it that way. My power cord had gotten a little dog-eared, so I called the Emjoy people and for something like $15 I was able to buy a new power cord. I intend to use this thing until it totally dies. It has been years and aside from the recharge not working well, it still does a great job on my legs.
************
I bought the Emjoy Gold Caress two years ago and have been using it continually. I really love this product, and I wish they'd stop advertising it in such a cheesy way, because I frequently tell other women that they should try it!
I have rather course dark hair on my legs and if I shave, I have stubble the very next day. This wonderful gadget plucks the hair from your legs MUCH less painfully than hot or cold waxing. Like waxing, the hair is gone for weeks and weeks. Great for summer or beach vacations.
This product does not nick you and cannot cut you. If you press down too hard on your skin with it, it stops working. I really like that feature, because it stops you from needlessly pressing too hard and hurting yourself. In fact, you don't need to press down at all; just glide it perpendicularly over the hair.
The Emjoy Gold removes even the shortest hairs from your legs. This means that, unlike waxing, you don't need to wait until your leg hair has all grown out. Personally, I hated having hairy legs for weeks so I could wax.
Here's a great tip for saving money on this product. Buy it from Sharper Image. First of all, Sharper Image lets you try their products for 60 days, so if you don't like it, you can return it and get your money back no questions asked. Secondly, if you happen to have an Entertainment Book (a book of discount coupons often sold by charity organizations), you can save $20 off the retail price, bringing your cost down to $59! (They will even refund your $20 if you paid full price and then decided to keep it, using the coupon! That's what I did!)
One thing I have noticed, after using this product for two years, is that after a while, I sometimes get little red bumps on my inner thighs. Not exactly "razor burn", more like just a little hair follicle irritation (this can occur with waxing, as well). It goes away. But be careful about ingrown hairs, especially on your upper thighs. Use a loofa or scrub sponge, as the instructions say, to avoid ingrown hairs and the resulting possible infections. Also, I usually "do" my legs at night before bed, so that my hair follicles have all night to calm down....that way, my legs don't look irritated in the morning (this can happen after waxing, as well, it's not a function of the product).
My best advice for first time use of this product: Shave your legs, then when the hair begins to grow back, use the Emjoy. It works better on slightly shorter hairs, and it will sting less. Use it every couple of days for a week; that way, you'll get all the hairs, fast-growing and slow-growing. Then you won't have to touch your legs for several weeks, except for perhaps a few very slow-growing hairs that have popped up.
Now let's talk about the way it feels. It stings a little. I suppose the level of discomfort may vary from person to person. If you can stand getting your legs waxed, this will be MUCH better. It doesn't hurt anywhere near as much as waxing, and once you get used to it, it's no big deal. If you use it regularly, and don't let your leg hair get really overgrown, you will find it fast, easy, and relatively painless. If you DO let your leg hair get overgrown...well, it will sting a lot. Personally, I am just jazzed about having nice smooth legs ALL the time now! No more embarrassing "hairy leg days" at the gym! ;-)
TRY THIS PRODUCT! It's GREAT! And If you liked it, write a note to me in the "comments" section of this review. I'm just curious to see if others like this product as much as I do.
