This isn't THE worst diet, because there are many bad diets circulating today, but this is definitely in the top three of worst diets of all time.
I know several people that have tried this high protein, high fat "Diet". All are now off it, all regained more weight than the initial "water" weight that they lost. One ended up in the hospital with a bad kidney infection. Proponents of this diet would say it was not related. I say "Poppycock". Anyone with any nutritional education at all (I have taken nutrition classes at our local college) will tell you that too much protein in the body strains the kidneys. That is just the protein problems. Any fool should be able to see that too much fat will make you fat. Don't get me wrong, the body needs fat; in fact, in our nutrition classes we learned that the body NEEDS (in order to maintain health) 55-60% Carbohydrates, 30% fat and 20% protein. That means your body actually requires MORE fat then protein to stay healthy!!
The food restrictions in the book would allow each "dieter" no more than 1100 calories per day. These are starvation rations. Between that and the initial loss of water weight, it is no wonder that people see immediate results. That is IF you follow the books guidelines. Most people do not have the discipline for this (be honest with yourself here) and they eat up eating the "allowed" foods in huge quantities.
If you stay on this "diet" forever, you will hurt your overall health (the highly acclaimed ketosis is actually a symptom that doctors look for in starving patients - why would you want to harm your body in this way?), if you get off the diet the weight will come right back, not because you are eating bread or potatoes, but because you are now eating the proper amount of calories. There is nothing about this diet that is healthy or sane, and in the long run all you will lose is your health or self-esteem as the weight comes crawling back on.
