| jos826's Full Review: El Paso Zoo |
This zoo is nationally known for the 1999 beating of Sissy the elephant. The same management is still there. When Mona died, they could have closed the elephant exhibit, but instead brought another elephant into the pitifully small exhibit. Captive elephants most commonly die from foot and joint degeneration from lack of space and exercise at about half normal life span.
This zoo has no business displaying elephants... it has NOTHING to do with education or conservation contrary to PR... elephants are money makers for zoos and never mind the toll on the animals.
Comments in the earlier review about 'not having to walk too far' is very telling about the quality of life available to the animals in this zoo.
