Pros: Absolutely Gorgeous! Worth every penny for admission. Very entertaining for adults and children.
Cons: I live to far away to go more often.

First of all I must tell you that I am a Zoo freak! I love Zoo’s! No matter where I go I always find a zoo when I get there. I was like that long before my son was born and I am so happy he loves zoos as well. I have been to some of the USA’s finest Zoo’s from San Antonio, Los Angeles and even the greatest (in my opinion) the San Diego Zoo. So how does the Dallas Zoo compare?
Tell me about the Dallas area Zoo
The Dallas zoo may look small but don’t be fooled by appearances. They fit a lot of activity and fun in that tiny little space. Each section is designed to a different theme. The first section you come to is rain forest, with its great waterfall this section is open with birds and Monkeys flying and climbing about. This is a huge treat to children and adults a like. As you leave the rain forest you enter the jungle where you view live crocodiles, jaguars, lions and Monkeys of all sorts. Once you leave the Jungle you arrive at the under water area where you can see the Aquariums and “River” exhibits. Check out the Manatee’s, turtles and numerous types of fish. Just past the river exhibit are tanks from all over the world. These tanks include displays from the Fiji, Australia, Solomon Islands, and more. Be sure to stop by the open animal exhibit and watch them feed and bathe Bison, Elephants and Camels. Don’t leave with out seeing the newest addition South Africa “The Penguin Exhibit” these are great little creatures and so much fun to watch.
But what if I am hungry? Or I want a gift?
Well the Dallas zoo would never let it’s residents or guests go hungry so park yourself at anyone of several snack carts, drink carts or out at the wonderful Eighteen-O-one Restaurant open from 11:30 am till 2:30 pm or the Jungle Cafe out by the Penguin exhibit open from 11am till 4 pm. The gift shop is downstairs in the aquarium or small gift carts throughout the zoo. If you are walking through out the rain forest and you happen to get marked by one of the flying birds then head over and mention your close encounter of the bird kind in the lower level gift shop and you will receive a free T-shirt that reads “I Was A Hit” at the Dallas World Aquarium.
Can I watch the animals feed?
At 11:00 am watch the Vampire bats, head over to the Crocodiles and watch the Piranha feeding. At 12:00 pm you can head over to South Africa and watch the Penguins eat, don’t worry if you miss it because they feed again at 4:00 pm. Hurry up or you will miss the 12:30 pm talk with Divers that will do underwater feedings at “The River” and again at 3:00 pm at the Continental Shelf. Are you interested in Sharks? Go on over to the Predator section and watch the Eel and Shark feeding. There are special feedings on Saturdays at 12:00 pm and 12:15 pm you can see the Crocodiles or the Anaconda’s feed.

The Dallas Aquarium and Zoo is open daily from 10 am till 5 pm. Adults $10.95, Children (ages 3-12) $6.00, seniors $8.00 and Children under 2 years are free. In Closing
Although $10.95 may seem steep to some people on price (I have been to some zoo’s that charge as much as $30.00), it is very worth it. Don’t miss seeing this splendor of Dallas. You will walk away with a Texas size smile.
