As you drive towards great adventure you pass through areas of smog infested New Jersey, but it's worth it.
I have been to this amusement park three or four times, and I always walk away feeling like I had all the fun I could have. The roller coasters are thrilling, and some of the attractions are unique.
I especially like the house of houdini. I can't really tell you what it's like without giving away the surprise, but I can tell you that the line is rarely very long, and it's unique.
The many rollercoasters are all fun, but several of them have less than pleasant side effects, no matter how hard-core of a roller-coaster fanatic you are.
Batman, the ride has great theming on the ride line, though most of their rides don't have that.
Nitro, their newer rollercoaster, was a great ride, and after going on it once at the beginning of our most recent visit, we did the rounds of the other rides, and decided to go back for seconds on Nitro. Unfortunately as we approached the ride, we realized the reason that there was no line was because the train was stuck halfway up the starting hill. We did our rounds again and realized that Nitro was running again. I'm a little uneasy knowing a ride recently was shut down, without knowing why, and then getting back on it.
An unfortunate occurance at Great Adventure is that fact that AOL bought Time Warner, which owns Six Flags. I am not a huge fan of AOL. I was subjected to one of the undoubtedly AOL-esque changes right at the opening of the park. As we are impatiently waiting for the ropes to be let down to let us into the park, we hear over the loudspeaker that the Bugs Bunny music spectacular is about to begin. Instead of the ropes being let down, and giving us a choice as to whether or not to be subjected to this blasphemy of Bug, Daffy, Porky, and Babs, we get to hear them and watch them singing and dancing to music that is less than pleasing to anyone over the age of 14. To make it worse, is that that's not the only time during the day this performance is thrown upon the unsuspecting customers. Several times throughout the day it is repeated, though these later performances are avoidable. Once you realize what's starting, it's too late. You stop to watch, thinking, cool, Bugs Bunny...it's got to be good. Oh boy. If I had reviewed Great Adventure three years ago, before AOL's acquisition, I'd have given it an Excellent. Not so now.
The ride's are still good, but I think as AOL gets its claws deeper into it, it will only get worse.
