I am 75% Cypriot, and 25% Greek. So since I am writing about one of my home countries. Therefore, I can assure you that all the information is completely true. So sit back, relax, and learn about Cyprus, A Million In A Million!
This is how you pronounce Cyprus: sigh-prus. In Greek, the word Keepro means Cyprus. So now you know some of the Greek language. In Cyprus, we do not speak Greek. The Greek word for Greek is Ellinika. In Cyprus we speak Cypriot. Cypriot is a dilate to Greek. You hear a lot more js and shs in the dilate. I also personally believe that Cypriots speak a little more faster than Greeks. Therefore, it would almost be impossible to understand us at any rate, because of our fast speech.
In 1974, Cyprus was attacked by the Turks. They started by attacking Kyrenia, and then moved south to make boundaries with the capital, Nicosia. Nicosia is a little bit above the middle of Cyprus. Therefore, 39% of Cyprus is occupied by Turkish, and the other 61% is occupied by the first settlers: the Cypriots. Today, Cypriots are not allowed to cross over to the Turkish side of Cyprus. I find it to be so hideous that they just came and took a large part of the Cypriot island. You can see some of the Turkish side from a small skyscraper type of mall called Wollworth. From what I see, it looks quite disgusting. They took crosses off of our churches, and turned them into mosques and museums. On a mountain chain called Pente Daktilon (Five Fingers), they painted on monstrous Turkish flags. Next to those flags, it says something similair to the following quote in Turkish. Cypriots, get out of Turkey. I am truly embarrassed for those rotten people who took a large portion of Cyprus. How absentminded they are, and how evil they are. I am not talking about all the Turkish. I am talking about those who had the crazy mind to kill and destroy some of the people of Cyprus, a wonderful island.
Cyprus Airways and Aviation- This airline was established in the 1960s. They now fly many flights daily from their two bases in Larnaca, and Paphos. These are the two cities that had airports constructed after the war. Since the Turkish took the Nicosia International Airport during the war, it was wise to have two airports for more convenient reasons. Cyprus Airways is the national airline of Cyprus, and is the main airline at both airports. I use them for all my travel services to and from Cyprus, but they are not excellent. Actually, I do not even like the company because of the tight seats and legroom. However, they are the only airline that has the lowest fares, and the most routes to and from Cyprus. There are also supposed to be more improvements on the way!

People of Cyprus, Culture, Food- I truly believe that all people of Cyprus are very well disciplined and have the best ways of living. They always do their best to please guests, and always make the best food. They usually make lamb, fish, chicken, steak, spaghetti, pastichio (macaroni with meat), dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), mousakka and baklava (traditional deserts), along with tsatziki (yogurt and cucumber). I promise you that if you are staying with a Cypriot, you will never ever be hungry! Cypriots decide to make a lot of food because they have a time at night. You might be wondering what I mean when I say this. Well, around 8-9 oclock, Cypriots usually have dinner along with beer and fine wine. After they eat every night with family and friends, it is time to play cards, tell jokes, stories, and watch TV outside for another three hours. Everyone is outside on the front deck(veranda) after sunset, and are having a great time!
Cities- The capital of Cyprus is Nicosia. It is the largest city on the Cypriot part of Cyprus. Famagusta is the largest city in all of Cyprus, but it has been split up between the Cypriots and Turkish. This also applies with Nicosia. Limassol is the third largest city, and is occupied by the Cypriots. Limassol is where half of my background is from, and 25% is from Famagusta. In the southern part of Limassol, there is a British army base. Larnaca is the city with the largest airport. Paphos is the smallest city, but I believe that it is the most beautiful because of the ancient sites. Paphos also has an airport, and is one of the two cities that does not have Turkish occupation. Limassol is the other city.
Downtown Limassol and Nicosia- In downtown Limassol and Nicosia, you will find the headquarters for shopping and food. There are mini malls stocked up with restaurants and stores. Along the outsides, there are jewelry stores filled with expensive items from places that people have dug within Cyprus. Along with jewelry stores, there are many shops. I must say that everything in Cyprus is expensive except for the food at taverns and the coffee shops.
Trodos- This is the largest mountain in the Cypriot part of Cyprus. You can see it from any part of Cyprus. It is located in northern Limassol, and southern Nicosia. You can take hikes and eat there. There are some small waterfalls, and a lot of trees. There is also fresh water to drink from in small rapids. It is a very nice mountain to have picnics, and to spend time with your family. It is never crowded, and there are a lot of animals. One drawback is snakes. There are poisonous snakes, but you will only find them if you do not stay withing a certain distance of the path.
Beaches- The beaches in Cyprus are always sparkling. For example, I found Agia Napa to be the most spectacular of all beaches. Agia Napa- Agia Napa is located in southern Famagusta, one of the small parts of this city that the Turkish have not taken. The water is clear, and the sand is white. You can tell the sand is white because you can see right through the water! Along with just going to the beach, there are restaurants on the shoreline along with hotels. There is also paddle boats and parasailing. I did the parasailing, and it was so exciting! Soaring 500 feet above the sparkling Mediterranean Sea was a spectacular view! Though the price was $18 a person, it was well worth it! Other Beaches- All cities in Cyprus have beaches. In Paphos, you are able to jump off rocks into nice cold water. Almost all beaches have huge waves with large breaking points with many white caps. Almost all beaches have restaurants and cafes available on the shore.
