| scottredd's Full Review: Taco John's |
I don't know if I'd say Taco John's has "a whole lot of Mexican going on," but they do have a whole lot of variety for a fair price.
Once you discover that Taco Bell has pretty much run the gambit on how many different ways they can combine their five basic ingredients, you'll begin to see why Taco John's is so appealing. I'll rank the differences:
1. Potatoes! Taco John's has "Potato Ole's"... spicy "tater tot" like creations that are great for people who like fries. They also have a dish called the "Potato Ole Bravo," in which they put a lot of these potatoes in a dish along with cheese sauce, ground beef, beans, and optionally, green onions, tomatoes, and sour cream. You have to eat it with a fork. Another dish is a huge burrito stuffed with beef, chicken, or steak, along with their Potatoe Ole's.
2. Salad. My wife is a vegetarian, and likes to eat salads. She'll often get a beany food and Potato Ole's, as well.
3. Kid's Menu. Kids don't always like tacos and burritos. Taco John's offers kid sized soft tacos, burritos, and a taco burger for finiky kids. Kids love Potato Ole's.
4. Flexible. My vegetarian wife like bean tacos. We've been refused service at Taco Bell when requesting bean tacos... something stupid about burning their hands with the beans. Taco John's has always been more than willing to accomodate this special request.
5. Value. Maybe not as cheap as Taco Bell, but still a good deal.
Many of the Taco John's in my area are remodeling for a fresh, new look. If there's one in your area, be sure to give it a try.
