Hello Epinions!
It has been a while since I have written a review, but I am glad to be back!
This weekend was my parents 40th wedding anniversary. We decided to meet at Legal Seafoods here in Sunrise, Florida. My family is originally from Massachusetts, so this restaurant has become one of my parents favorite. I have been there a few times myself, but never with my children.
I can tell you that I have been to the Legal Seafoods in Massachusetts. They are fine restaurants and I recommend them highly. However, since I have moved to South Florida I can honestly say I have not had good clam chowder down here. That was until Legal Seafoods moved into my neighborhood.
Since there are lots of reviews about Legal Seafoods in the Boston area, I would like to tell you about the one here in Sunrise. Sunrise is in the Ft. Lauderdale area of Florida.
Legal Seafood is in a place called the Oasis. This is a very trendy type of area where you park your car outside and walk into a different world. There is no driving in the Oasis. The area is filled with trendy types of shops, such as surf shops, jewelry stores and Art galleries. There are old fashion ice cream shops and side walk cafes. There are also plenty of restaurants to eat at once you are tired from walking.
Legal Seafood is located just outside the main entrance. You can sit outside of the restaurant to dine and listen to the bands that play at night. There is a large fountain to look at and often people will begin dancing to the music.
When you get into Legal Seafood, I will tell you that at night there will be a wait. Since we had a large party I was able to make a reservation. However Legal Seafood only takes reservations at off peak times. During peak hours it is first come first serve. If you go early enough you will have no problem getting a table. The restaurant opens at noon.
Legal Seafoods at the Oasis is a clean and bright place. Lots of square tables surround a large raw bar. The kitchen is in open view and you can see the chefs cooking. You can sit right up at the kitchen bar if you like. I have done this and the chefs will come over to you and ask you to try something they are making. It is fun.
If you are a seafood lover, than this is the place for you!!! If you are not, go somewhere else. There is lots to choose from but mostly seafood. There are too many entrees to tell them all, but I will give you some of the specials.
Raw Bar, Chowders, Appetizers:
They have a Raw bar with oysters, clams and shellfish. I do not like these myself, but they are very popular here in South Florida. There are more than 16 different appetizers to choose from ranging in price from 8 dollars to 13 dollars. We got the fried calamari and it was like butter. I also have had the famous clam chowder (this has been served at 6 presidential inaugurations) and it is the best I have had in Florida. Full of flavor, thick and creamy the way it is supposed to be!!
Dinner:
I scanned the dinner menu and there is nothing but seafood on it. I had the sole stuffed with lobster, crab and bread crumbs. It was topped with cheese and served with potato and green beans. It was amazing and it was 20 dollars. The dinners can range from medium pricing of 14 dollars to pricey at 37 dollars for the lobster bake. They change their menus on a weekly basis, adding fish in season along with their specials.
Lunch:
For some reason the lunch menu has a bit more variety to it. You can order a cheeseburger or chicken if you wish. Lunches are very reasonable and range from 7 dollars to 12 dollars. The appetizer menu for lunch is the same as the one for dinner.
You can bring alone the children to Legal Seafoods. They have high chairs if you need them and they have a separate children's menu with all the goodies that kids love. They have chicken nuggets, burgers, and mac and cheese along with small versions of their main dishes specially made for kids. They will also make you something different if they have it and if you call ahead and ask.
If you have special dietary needs, Legal will provide you with a list of their ingredients. This is great if your child has an allergy to gluten or peanuts.
Overall, our experience at Legal seafood was great. The food was outstanding and the service was good. We were a large party and had no problem. I requested the children's meals be sent out early and they were quick to help. I know some think Legal is pricey, but for South Florida this restaurant is not too bad. It is in a nice area often surrounded by a live band, near shops and a move theater in walking distance.
If you are ever in Ft. Lauderdale check out Legal Seafood. The restaurant brings a flavor of the north so South Florida with a twist. It is a great place to dine and be with that special someone. I highly recommend this restaurant.

In case you are curious, we were a party of 15 and spent about 400 dollars which averages out to around 26 dollars a plate. Not to bad!
