Depending on your age, you will (or won’t) remember some of the cutting edge advertising done by Burger King throughout its commercial successes. No other fast food burger restaurant (yes, I do mean McDonalds) has been able to invent catchier phrases or jingles than Burger King.
HAVE IT YOUR WAY!
The first such commercial (that I remember) was the famous, “Have it your way.” The jingle was sung and went:
“Hold the pickle, hold the lettuce,
Special orders don’t upset us,
Have it your way, have it your way
Have it your way
At Burger King.”
The meaning is clear. The tune (can’t sing it for you…can’t sing!) was catchy. People went around humming and or singing it for months. People really liked the idea that Burger King would fix your burger especially the way you wanted it. They did do that too, and continue to do it today.
I believe in my mind, that this jingle meant to me that the hamburgers weren’t mass produced ahead of time (like other fast food restaurants that we all know and love) because each one was individual. Condiments are added to the burgers according to your specifications and do not take any longer to receive than if they were all done the same way. But, I found out that they are made ahead of time and since my opinion is that Burger King is always slow, it makes no difference.
HOME OF THE WHOPPER!
When the Whopper was introduced, this was the advertising phrase that appeared in multitudes of television advertisements. People knew more about the Whopper than who was President of the United States. Just say, “Whopper” and everyone associates it with Burger King.
And, if they don’t associate it with Burger King, they will begin to tell you about a line of men’s underwear that was introduced about 6 months after the Burger King Whopper came out. On the front of the bikini brief, was printed (for those who were looking) HOME OF THE WHOPPER! This advertisement was VERY successful and we all understood that the Whopper was BIG! Is the Whopper big? Well, at Burger King it was the biggest of the burgers and is today bigger than any of the competitors. (And,I hope if your husband has a string bikini brief with those immortal words on them that it is true of him as well.)
The next memorable ad campaign was one to get you into the ad itself. They went around and interviewed people and had them say for the television camera, “The bigger the burger, the better the burger, the burgers are bigger at Burger King.” This tongue twister had kids and adults as well, saying the Burger King name repeatedly as they spent lots of time practicing the jingle. My own kids were constantly driving me crazy as they tried to say it faster than the other one. Over, and over. and over. and…As you can see, this advertisement also was a hit and sold the Burger King name and product. Are the burgers bigger at Burger King? Are bigger burgers better? Yes, the size of the burgers is bigger. I personally think that if you get a bigger burger it’s also bound to be better. At least, better for my pocketbook!
The Burger King restaurants offer both drive-thru service and inside seating. I have done a lot of traveling and the drive-thru seems to be the same where ever I visit. The operable word is, “slow.” As in, slower than other drive-thru services. The one near my house is the worst! I can never even go there for breakfast on my way to work or I’d be late every day. I only visit Burger King when I’m not in a hurry.
The inside service is pretty standard. In this area, the BK restaurants have stainless steel counters; menus to read over the counter employee’s heads; and often a roped off section so no cuts can be taken. They do appear to wipe down the counter often and the bathrooms are clean.
There is a condiment center that offers a wide variety of burger fixings. Besides the condiments they have fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onion slices.
At the Burger Kings located near me, the customer pays for a drink and receives an empty cup. At an island, near the condiments, one has to get their own beverage. This is true whether you dine in or take out. I don’t mind it at all when I dine in because I can fix the drink with as few or as many ice cubes as I personally like. But, I find it a hassle to do when I’m getting a take out order. My hands are full of bags and then I have to put them down and take time to get the drinks, the straws and the correct size lids. My food, meanwhile, is cooling quickly.
Burger King offers char broiled burgers from a grill. If you like the taste of home barbecued hamburgers, you’ll prefer BK burgers to burgers from other fast food restaurants.
Some of the foods offered at Burger King include:
BURGERS: (all fixed with your choice of toppings)
Hamburgers; Cheeseburgers; Double hamburger and cheeseburgers; Whoppers, Double Whoppers and Jr. Whoppers; and various other “special” burger types from time to time.
CHICKEN:
BK offers some chicken selections as well: Chicken Sandwich; BK Broiler and Chicken Tenders. (The Chicken sandwich and the Tenders are crispy because they’re fried…so watch out for the fat content, if you are weight conscious.)
FISH:
The Big Fish sandwich is very tasty and crisp but high in calories and fat content because it’s fried.
SALADS:
The Burger King by me does not always offer salad selections. But, when they do offer them, it is the Garden Variety.
FRENCH FRIES AND ONION RINGS:
The French Fries are tasty but I vote for McDonald’s as being the best between the two establishments. They are good, though when they’re hot.
The Onion Rings are really good. Not too greasy and they have a very good taste. Around here, onion rings are only available at Burger King (and recently Arby’s).
DESSERTS:
Pies: Apple; lemon and an oreo-type cheesecake shaped like a pie. They occasionally carry cookies and specialty desserts.
DRINKS:
This is a highlight because they have frozen cokes! They also have the standard Coke, Sprite, Dr.Pepper, and milkshakes. Their coffee is excellent but they don’t carry flavors.
COMPLETE AND DELICIOUS BREAKFAST MENU!!!!
This is my favorite part of Burger King meals. They carry their famous Croissandwiches made to order with egg, bacon, cheese and/or ham. (These are hard to eat while driving because they are flaky crusted and somewhat greasy.) My absolute favorite are the French Toast Sticks. These are five sticks of French toast served with syrup. The also have Muffin sandwiches, Mini pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon or hash browns.
The prices at Burger King are less expensive than sit down restaurants but it still is more expensive than you would think that fast food would be. For me to pick up a chicken sandwich, two hamburgers, one bag of French fries and a medium coke was close to nine dollars.
However, if you are in a hurry and want something relatively fast (faster than cooking anyway) and something that tastes good, then I recommend that you visit Burger King Restaurant.
I also, totally recommend breakfast of your choice at Burger King because I’ve never eaten anything for breakfast that I didn’t like. Just remember that it is only served around here until 10:30 am. So, when you're out and about and don't have time or desire to cook a meal at home, remember...
Burger King...Home of the Whopper and More!!!
