| rice75's Full Review: Sony KV-27FS13 27 inch TV |
My Sony 27" FD Trinitron WEGA Television was last year's Christmas present from Santa. Apart from the G.I. Joe Headquarters I received when I was ten, this is the greatest present ever. I love its sleek look and design, I love its vivid picture and colors, I love everything about this television.
I actually picked this TV out based on the Dec. 2001 Consumer Reports article on TVs. It was highly recommended there. While it is a bit more expensive than comparable models from other companies (it is Sony, after all) it is worth going the extra mile here.
Before I continue to sing its praise, let me give you some essential specifications. (from the Operating Instruction Manual)
Screen Size: 27" (measured diagonally)
Inputs/Outputs: 1 S. Video, 1 Audio Out, 1 RF Input, 1 Component Video/1 Audio
Power Consumption 170 W in use, 1 W in standby
Dimensions: 27.625 x 25 x 20.25 in
Mass: 103 lbs. 10 oz.
Note: There are two errors on the 'Specs' section here on Epinions for this TV: There are front Audio/Video inputs (composite video) and there are parental controls for this TV (although I'm not sure if they are 'V-Chip' controls)
Now that we got that out of the way, I can go back to singing.
Picture
Like I've said before, the color range of Sony 27" FD Trinitron WEGA Television is amazing. Even though the picture while watching plain old TV is great (I have regular Time Warner Cable), the TV really shines while watching DVDs. I have a JVC XV-S65GD DVD Player and I've connected it to the TV via the Component Video inputs. I use the factory cables from the DVD player. The crispness of the picture and the vividness of the colors is something that needs to be experienced to fully appreciate the ability of this TV. It is just awe-inspiring. (I'm running out of adjectives to do it justice) The Sony 27" FD Trinitron WEGA Television also has a 16:9 enhanced mode which enhances the picture resolution for wide screen sources, which is a great feature. I really can't say enough about how good the picture is.
Sound
Before I routed the audio through my trusty Pioneer VSX-452 Dolby Pro Logic Receiver I listened to the built-in speakers. They sounded just fine. The produced a nice rich, full sound. Through my receiver makes it that much better.
Remote Control
While it is a bulky remote, it isn't a pain to use. The buttons are soft and the remote fits well in the hand. My only complaint is the 'Jump' function which allows you to jump between two channels. It takes a few tries to figure out how to get it to work right, but once you get it down, the remote is your best friend. It is also a 'universal' remote, so it can be programmed to control all your peripherals as well. I haven't tried this yet, I like my other remotes too much to stop using them. All the audio and visual controls are available through the remote. You can adjust picture and audio settings, set parental controls, and customize channel settings.
The Sony 27" FD Trinitron WEGA Television is easy to set up, easy to control and extremely easy to enjoy. There really isn't anything that I can think of that would stop me from giving this a 10. While it doesn't have the biggest screen out there, it is a great TV to build a nice home theater around.
