| Donnie013's Full Review: KitchenAid KUDS24SE Built-in Dishwasher |
I was having a new home built and wanted the perfect appliances. I wrote to all the major manufacturers and request (and received) their brochures. I studied these books carefully for almost six months before making my decision.
KitchenAid Superba KUDS24SE offered the features I was looking for:
1) three spray jets, one on top, one on the bottom and one in the middle. This would assure me a full and complete wash and rinse.
2) fold down racks for larger dishes (or pots)
3) "stem" holders for stemware glasses
4) easy care stainless steel interior
5) attractive outside
6) affordability
7) two baskets for silverware
What I got is this and so much more!
While living in my former home, our dishwasher had only a top and bottom sprayer. My dishes were hardly ever spotless. With the sprayers in my new KitchenAid dishwasher, I don't even have to "pre-wash" anything.
The fold down racks are so convenient. Quite often, I'll need the extra space for a casserole dish and without this feature, it would have to be scrubbed by hand. Guess what! I don't do that anymore. Kitchen Aid does it for me.
I used to carefully wash all my good crystal by hand because there was no room in my dishwasher. The glasses has to be placed upside down and were always too tall to fit in. Now with the stem holders in my new Kitchen Aid, the glasses can fit easily on a slant and with the "china" cycle, they are cleaned - gently and completely.
With the stainless steel interior, I found this dishwasher to be "self cleaning". It doesn't buildup stains they way porcelain or baked-enamel dishwashers do.
The overall feature is attractive and compliments my kitchen.
My model is the KUDS24SE "Whisper Quiet Ultima" from the Superba line. This model is sooooooo quiet, you barely know when it's running. You can actually stand in front of it and hold a conversation without having to shout.
AND HERE'S THE KICKER: (ACTUALLY TWO)
1) I only have to use about ONE tablespoon of dish detergent per wash. The dishes come out completely spotless! What a savings!
2) I never had to use the full cycle. I add my "small" amount of detergent and press the SHORT WASH - another savings!
The outside design is smooth and sleek and the controls are located on the keypad neatly positioned at the top of the handle under which is located the lever to open the door. And speaking of controls, there are so many options from which to choose to get that perfect cleanliness you desire.
For instance:
The KitchenAid Superba has a button for an Anti-Bacteria cycle. While a normal rinsing from a normal wash cycle will produce water temperatures up to 140-degrees F, this Anti-bacteria cycle raises those temps to rinse at 155-degrees to eliminate almost all traces of bacteria build-up on your dishes.
Next to that button, you'll find the Soak & Scrub option. This is great for those hard-to-clean casserole dishes.
Just doing your normal mealtime dishes? Then all you need is your normal cycle button.
Okay, so you've just eaten breakfast (or any light meal) and you want to get the dishes done quickly. Just press the short wash pad and your dishes come out spotless! I've had my dishwasher for 4 years now and have never had to used anything but my short wash cycle - even for my crusted casserole dishes.
O boy! Here's a chore that can drive a woman batty. Cleaning the China closet! Don't you just hate washing all those delicate dishes by hand? Well, with the KitchenAid Superba, you don't have to. Just set the control to Light/China, place your precious dinnerware and stemware inside, add the detergent and shut the door! Everything comes out as perfect as when it went in - only a whole lot cleaner!!
Let's say your family is small and you only need to run your dishwasher once a day but you hate leaving dishes in the sink. Just load them in the Supra and press the control for rinse only. This will eliminate any gunky left-on food that might (notice I said MIGHT) stick on your food during the washing cycle. (However, that has NEVER happened to me)
Above these controls, you'll find the various cycles indicaters that will light up as the dishwasher goes through each of them.
The Superba has a water heating sensor with an indicating light that tells you whenever the cycles is heating water during the wash. This was there is NO wasted hot water. The dishwasher only heats the water as needed. Why?
The Superba has a built-in Sensing Device that "senses" the soil level of the dishes. That Device often determines the amount of times the water heats during a wash cycle and the length of that cycle. Neat, huh?
How many young moms walk in the kitchen to find their tots playing with the button on their dishwashers? Too often, right? With the Superba, that can be eliminated. There is a Child Lock button you can set so the child can't accidentally turn on the washer. A small light will indicate when you've activated this feature.
This dishwasher also features an Energy Saver Dry option. That means that you can turn off the heated drying phase and let your dishes "air dry" if you wish.
When you visit your appliance dealer to check out the dishwashers, look inside the Superba in the lower right side corner. You're going to see what looks like round plastic cap. This is your overfill protector. Once that reaches a certain height, the water stops pumping into your machine. I think this is a great idea! How many times do you open the door during a cycle to add one more dirty dish. This little plastic cap, keeps your water at a certain level - lower than the door - to prevent the overflowing water from your machine to the floor.
I've read many reviews on other dishwashers that state how dishes need to be rinsed first to prevent food from splashing up and sticking to dishes. This doesn't happen with the Superba. Why? The Superba has a FIVE-LEVEL washing system and a TRIPLE-FILTRATION system. What this does is constantly rinse the dishes flowing the water through the ultra-fine filter trapping food particles.
So now you're probably thinking, "Hey this is a great machine!" right? Well, there's a bit more to this awesome dishwasher! Not only is there a cancel button if you feel the need to cancel your cycles, but there is also a delay button that enables you to delay your washing cycle up to SIX hours (in two hour increments).
Although the dishwasher comes with TWO silverware baskets, I've removed one as I rarely use them both. The good thing about these baskets is that you can place them in various places in the dishwasher to lock them together and put them in one corner. The option is yours!
Another good feature is the rinse aid dish. Not only is there a small lidded dispenser where you add this liquid, there is also an indicator light tell you when it's empty.
Honestly, KitchenAid Superba does everything but load the dishes. And speaking of loading, I've "loaded" the dishes, placing dishes on dishes, bowls sitting on top of plates, etc. Everything comes out clean!!
You'd really have to see this thing to believe it. It's really that great!
So great, in fact, that the builder of my new home was so impressed with the KitchenAid products I selected, when he decided to build a new Showcase Model, he chose the exact same appliances I purchased for my new home.
Not only do they look great - THEY WORK GREAT!
I would HIGHLY recommend Kitchen Aid to everyone!
