I purchased this board for a customer, and paired it up with 2 512 sticks of Corsair 400mhz memory, a AMD XP 3200+ and a Radeon 9800 Pro. For Hard Drive I used a Raptor 10,000 RPM Hard Drive.
I benchmarked this system using a few programs and got some awesome results. This board offers onboard surround sound, equalizer, post code meter, which tells you the status of the motherboard during boot, has 4 USB 2.0 ports, Fire wire ports, connectors for USB, fire wire, and audio on the front of your case, and many other extras. With all this built onboard, the board still delivers amazing performance, and has plenty slots available for growth.
Another neat feature is that the motherboard has a speech module built into the bios, which also speaks over the speakers on boot. Splash screen on the board is colorful and looks nice, and the bios has allot of features...
Bios supports over clocking, setting of ram speeds, AGP speeds, multiplier and clock speeds. It has preset options for aggressive performance. I found more extras in this bios than a combination of boards I’ve used before.
A Big plus is the fact that this board has onboard Serial ATA, which I used in combination with the Western Digital Raptor. Be careful with the SATA connectors, they are fragile. Another thing, Asus isn’t providing a floppy disk with the SATA drivers on it, so you must copy them from the CD to a diskette before attempting to install XP onto this drive. Windows XP will not detect this drive unless you Press F6 for Raid and SCSI controllers, insert the floppy, and provide the drivers during the install...
If any board can squeeze extra performance from hardware it’s this one. I'd recommend this board to anyone looking to over clock, or simply wanting something stable, affordable and with all the extras.
