pilarzmom's Full Review: Allure by Chanel 3.4 oz Eau de Toilette Spray for ...
I have always considered fragrances from Chanel the gold standard to which all others must measure up to, but I never actually was lucky enough to have a bottle myself until Valentines Day a few years ago. That is when my husband surprised me with my first bottle from Chanel, Allure Eau de Toilette Spray, in the 3.4 ounce size.
The Allure fragrance was based on Coco Chanel's ideal: "an innocent seduction without artifice, an unforgettable elegance transcending words and conventions, " as quoted from the Chanel website (www.chanel.com).
When I first put on this fragrance, I immediately notice its strong, warm top notes of the Orient followed by fresh floral middle notes and just a hint of Vanilla in its lingering base notes. It is definitely a stronger scent, even in the lighter Eau de Toilette formulation. While Chanel calls this a "simple jewel", it is nonetheless, somewhat of a complex fragrance blend in that is difficult to pinpoint any one essential oil.
The Chanel website lists the six essential oils in Allure as follows: Bergamot, Mandarin, Water Lily and Magnolia, Jasmine and May Roses, Vetiver and Vanilla.
I do like it, however. While I tend to wear lighter scents for everyday, this is a great scent to wear for a night out on the town. I would not recommend it for working women as is strong and might be overwhelming for your co-workers. (I speak from experience as a former co-worker wore a strong French perfume that actually gave me headaches.)
In my opinion, this fragrance is best suited for women 25 and older with a bit of sophistication and maturity. That's not to say it's a matronly scent. Quite the contrary! However, I seriously doubt that I would consider giving this to my teenage niece when she graduates from high school this year.
Like all Chanel fragrances, it comes in a simple but chic glass bottle, embodying Coco Chanel's view on style: "Always remove, always strip away, never add." The EDT spray has a silver pull off lid with a contrasting gold band. The bottle, while easy to hold, can be a bit heavy, and I have to be careful not to overspray. I find that one spray on wrist or elbow is plenty and lasts all day.
I'm very happy to finally have a Chanel scent as a part of my perfume collection. Every woman deserves a bottle of Chanel and Allure is a modern but elegant scent that is sure to please.
