The Intro

Every so often an anime title comes along that is absolutely pointless and has little to no redeeming values. It has no real story, very thin characters, bad animation, cheesy music and more gratuitous nudity than a live action porno movie? Does this make these titles bad? Well, that depends on how much you love panty shots... if you do, then this is your anime!

The Story

This is an anime about a girl named Aika (pronounced: Eye-Ka) living in the near future in a world where an incredible catastrophe that happened twenty years in the past caused 95% of the world's land mass to be submerged underwater. Aika is now a salvager... someone who's job it is to go underwater and retrieve valuable information and artifacts from the cities.

But what only a few people know is that Aika also possesses a golden corset type piece of clothing that is made of semi sentient (it's almost a life form of it's own) metal which activates when she is in trouble and sprouts tentacles that eventually (they must first always strip her naked and grope her body a bit) cover her and turn her from a leggy blonde into a tan woman with blue hair that can kick your butt within a heartbeat.

One day though Aika is approached with a very special job. She must infiltrate the lab of a mad scientist who is trying to experiment with a dangerous substance known as Lagu. If she can get data on the substance it's worth a hundred million, if she can get some of the actual substance it's a hundred million and if she can get both, it's three hundred million... yeah, I'd take that offer too.

The Good and the Bad

Hoo boy where do I even start? OK, I do have to be fair here and admit that there are a couple of parts of this anime that aren't terrible. There were a couple of points near the end where I chuckled at the stupid jokes and the closing credits were pretty well done. Other than that though......

This anime was just downright terrible. The character designs were terrible in many cases (especially Bandra..... ug!). The writing was pretty bad (which includes incest), the plot was paper thin and the animation was cheesy. Honestly, this anime couldn't have gotten much worse for me. Now don't get me wrong..... I'm a red blooded American man and I like gratuitous nudity as much as the next one... but is it too much to ask that there be a halfway decent story line to go with it and the hundreds of panty shots that we have to endure?

Dub vs. Sub

I listened to both the sub and dub track on this volume and I actually didn't find either one too great. They weren't bad. I will say that the actors did a good job with what they had to work with but overall it wasn't enough to salvage anything.

Music

The music in this series was also pretty terrible. The opening theme had some of the cheesiest lyrics I've ever heard. If it had just been an instrumental piece, it would've been great but those stupid lyrics just got in the way.

The ending theme wasn't terrible but it also wasn't anything special.

The music during the actual show however was inexcusably bad. The music tried so hard to make you feel like you had to be on the edge of your seat but all I wanted to do was roll my eyes.

Extras

There are only a couple of extras on this volume. The first of which is a music video using footage from the anime and a song from the show. It's OK but nothing that I cared about too much.

The second extra would've been much more helpful had they executed it better. It is a short feature where you can get some info about the characters but the blurb on the screen goes by so fast that you have to view it at least 2 or 3 times before you actually get what was being said since you can't pause the DVD while looking at this feature.

Overall

I toyed with the idea of giving this anime my lowest rating of 1 star but after doing some more thinking I decided to give it two stars because while it is pure mindless trash... it did have 1 or 2 redeeming qualities and I'm sure that someone out there much like this stuff otherwise no one would've bothered to bring it over here.

If pointless nudity and panty shots placed on top of a paper thin story is your kind of anime, check it out.
