A spoof of a spoof. Chewbacka is a wookie; It doesn't make sense!
Now I must admit I was up for the idea of a spoof of Horror movies, even though the "Scream" series has already done it three times. I thought a fresh perspective (from the usually entertaining Wayans brothers) might make "Scary Movie" worth my time. And, despite learning it was a spoof of a spoof, I still went to the drive-in last night because of the 2 for 1 deal.
Scary Movie basically follows the same plotline as the Screams did, which is to say, there really isn't one. A teenager played by a 30 year old is killed, and her equally aged buddies begin suspecting each other.
There is no real flow to the movie; it's just a collection of 5-minute comedy bits, basically a segment to make fun of a particular moment in "Scream", "I Know What You Did Last Summer", and "The Blair Witch Project", to name a few. There are a few funny moments, but for me the film would have been better if it had poked fun at horror flicks that were trying to be serious (a little more Jason, or Michael, for example).
Basically that's all I can say about this movie. The whole premise blew the big one; I mean, can you imagine a movie that would make fun of "Airplane!"? Where's the fun in that? Don't spoof the spoof.
